Consumers Condemn DWASA Water, but the Problem goes much Deeper
The water provided by Dhaka’s utility service, Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (DWASA), has come under fresh scrutiny following a report lambasting the agency’s service and water quality. Five water treatment plants in the city supposedly make the water consumable. But the pipeline used to distribute the water often renders the process pointless. While DWASA has been working on various projects to improve its network, worn out and underdeveloped pipelines continue to provide a steady supply of dirty water to angry consumers. The acute scarcity of water in Dhaka city fades the mega-development story of the regime. The secular government of Bangladesh has undertaken quite a number of big infrastructure projects such as fly-over, metro-rail, etc. in Dhaka, yet the city dwellers are deprived of fresh water which is leading to the spread of several waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid, etc. epidemically. The government is negligent in ensuring safe water network as it may negatively affect the water-related businesses of its vested group and capitalists such as mineral water, water purifier, etc. Despite the gross failure in fulfilling the rights of people, the regime and its officers are shamelessly lying and denying the facts. Moreover, the secular government is prioritizing projects based on the benefits of the ruling class and its vested interest group as they are the active supporters of the secular democratic regime, the interest, and well-being of the general people is far from its thinking process. So, we can never expect our rights to be secured unless we remove this secular system and establish one that sincerely looks after the affairs of the people – the Khilafah Rashidah (rightly guided Caliphate).
