Press Release
Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah Tunisia to host International Women’s Conference
“The Family: Challenges & Islamic Solutions”
Organized by the Women’s Section in the Central Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir

On Saturday 27th of October, Hizb ut Tahrir in Wilayah Tunisia will host an important international women’s conference organized by the Women’s Section in the Central Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir entitled, “The Family: Challenges & Islamic Solutions” to address the crisis affecting the harmony and unity of marriage and family life in communities across the world, including in Muslim lands. This significant event will gather selected women from Tunisia and other countries, who are influential leaders in their community or have expertise in the subject. Female members and spokeswomen of Hizb ut Tahrir from the Middle East, the Gulf region, Africa, Asia, Southeast Asia and Europe will present the conference talks. The conference will be live-streamed to an international audience in various languages and will also include a book exhibition. The event is the culmination of a three-week intensive international campaign on the global crisis affecting marriage and family life today, which addressed the causes and presented the Islamic solutions to the many problems affecting the harmony and unity of the family. This campaign also included engagement with communities, organisations, influentials, the media, and an active social media campaign that enjoyed extensive international support.

The strong and cohesive family unit is the foundation of strong, stable and successful societies. The family is also pivotal in providing physical, emotional, and material support and wellbeing to all its members and to ensure the effective care and righteous upbringing of children. However today we are facing a crisis that affects the harmony and unity of marital and family life in societies around the world including those in Muslim lands. Marriage has been undermined, discord in marital and family life is prevalent and widespread, motherhood has been devalued, and there is an epidemic of family breakdown. This is despite the fact, that the strength of family life and its harmony was once a characteristic feature of the Islamic Ummah. Unhappy, fragmented and dysfunctional marriages and family lives cause huge emotional turmoil for all involved and can have a devastating impact on children and members of society. It is therefore vital that serious attention be given to addressing this crisis in the family unit and saving it from destruction.

Therefore this important conference will address subjects such as: the dangers of the changing face of the family structure in today’s world; the impact of family breakdown on children, individuals and societies; the role of feminist narratives, the media and government policies in fueling this crisis; national and international agendas to further secularise the Muslim family and Islamic social laws, including the Report of the Committee on Individual Liberties & Equality in Tunisia; developing a new perspective on addressing domestic violence; as well as how capitalist systems have devalued motherhood. The conference will also detail how the values and laws of the Islamic Social System can practically protect marriage, nurture tranquility in marital life, elevate the status of motherhood and establish and preserve strong unified family units. Additionally, the conference will explain the vital role of Islamic governance under the shade of the Khilafah state based upon the Prophethood in cultivating, promoting and protecting strong marriages and family structures. It will also urge Muslims to take urgent and concrete steps to save the family from ruin.

The conference will start at 10 am on Saturday 27th October and be held at the Hizb Headquarters Sakra Interjection – Ariana. A press conference will be held at 10 am on Thursday, 25th October at the Hizb Headquarters in Ariana. Male journalists will be permitted to attend the press conferenceprovided they abide by the Shari'a provisions, but the main conference is for women only.  Further information regarding the conference and for press accreditation please contact: This email address is being protected from spambots.
