News Right Now: When the Stats Speak for Themselves

Welcome to News Right Now - When the Stats Speak for Themselves

Along with a border wall between the US and Mexico, one of the hallmarks that Donald Trump promised his base was a travel ban barring individuals from certain countries to visit the United States. The ban was quickly dubbed the “Muslim Ban” because of statements and suspicions that Trump had about Islam and Muslims. The move banned citizens from Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, as well as North Korea and Venezuela from entering the US. Despite the Trump administration denying that it was a quote-unquote “Muslim” ban, the statistics show that visas for applications from majority Muslim countries have dramatically declined.

Despite the Trump administration denying that it was a quote-unquote “Muslim” ban, the statistics show that visas for applications from majority Muslim countries have dramatically declined. Between 2017 and 2018, visas to Iranian citizens fell by 78%. Visas to citizens from Somalia decreased by 86% and Yemen by 83% according to research published in an article on Quartz.com by political scientist Vahid Niayesh. Citizens from Libya and Syria also saw 80% declines in visa approvals. The stats paint a clear picture that the ban is in fact a Muslim ban.

What’s openly apparent is that individuals from these Muslim-majority nations pose no inherent national security threat. They aren’t denied entry because of quote-unquote “terrorist” links. They aren’t accused of committing a crime. They are denied entry simply because of their nationality - and the statistics confirm what was already clear for all to see. The concept of nationalism fans the flames of hatred for people of different nations and works to preserve the national identity of the host nation.

The problem isn’t the Muslim ban per SE... how can we expect the colonial nations that support dictators and make hostile incursions into Muslim lands like Afghanistan and Iraq to be friendly to Islam and Muslims? Muslims will continue to be offended and attacked because of the ideological nature of our deen.

Allah says:

“Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) till you follow their religion. Surah al Baqarah : 120

The real tragedy is how the Muslim rulers drink from the poisoned well of nationalism, presiding over secular-nationalist regimes that breed hatred and animosity between Muslims. It’s tragic that Muslims seek safety and security from disbelieving colonist nations rather than feeling secure and prosperous in the Muslim lands. This situation will continue until we uproot the corrupt governments in the Muslim world and re-establish the Khilafah.
