 Press Release
Another Round of Conflict in Yemen — This Time in Hadhramaut
(Translated)

The Alliance of Hadhramaut Tribes, led by Amr bin Habrish Al-Ali, announced in its statement issued on Saturday, April 12, 2025, following a broad meeting attended by the tribes and various segments of Hadhramaut, its demand for self-governance in Hadhramaut and its refusal to submit to what it called "other parties," referring to those competing for control over Hadhramaut. The statement also declared the necessity of forming a Hadhrami force to protect Hadhramaut, noted Saudi Arabia’s support for the region, and emphasized the need to address its electricity crisis.

Anyone observing the situation in Yemen in general, and Hadhramaut in particular, can see that this meeting and statement are just another round of the same conflict the alliance claims to reject. To emphasize this, we remind the public of the following:

1. The chief of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, Amr bin Habrish, has been the First Deputy Governor of Hadhramaut for the past nine years, and the poor state of Hadhramaut mentioned in the statement is the same as it was when he was appointed a partner in governing the region.

2. The demands made by the alliance for Hadhramaut are the same ones promised by the Southern Transitional Council to its supporters since its formation. Yet, to this day, Aden and other areas under the council’s control live in misery and hardship, with people suffering greatly without seeing any of those promises fulfilled.

3. The foreign dependence and ties condemned by the statement of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance are the very same actions the alliance itself has taken. Its leader, Amr bin Habrish, made a surprise visit to Saudi Arabia late last Ramadan and met with the Minister of Defense and the official in charge of the Yemen file, Khalid bin Salman. This was done as part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to steer the alliance’s course. Under the reign of Salman, Saudi Arabia has been working in various ways to penetrate Yemen and expel British influence, replacing it with that of its patron, the United States. America's eye on Hadhramaut is not new; its current ambassador, Steven Fagin, has made more than three visits to Hadhramaut in just six months. Before him, former U.S. ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Seche (2007–2010), stated: "Hadhramaut possesses all the elements of a state."

Thus, this statement represents a form of regional conflict — Saudi versus Emirati — which in truth is a Western struggle (American / British) over Hadhramaut, one of the most vital regions of Yemen due to its vast wealth and large area, which spans approximately 193,000 km². This conflict is being executed through local hands, and none of the involved parties truly care about the people's interests or needs — otherwise, the war would not still be ongoing, draining the blood of Yemen’s Muslim youth. Do not be fooled by slogans like “Hadhramaut” and “Hadhramaut’s oil,” just as people were deceived by slogans about “the South’s resources and wealth.” Those who rule us today are part of the warring tools and part of the problem — the solution will not come from them.

These calls — whether for Hadhramaut, the South, or Al-Mahrah — which are based on national or ethnic grounds, are ignorant calls rejected by Islam. They are Western projects designed to divide Muslims and ignite conflicts among them on non-Islamic grounds. Sadly, we see Muslims who accept being soldiers in the devil’s projects, causing bloodshed among Muslims, while the Islamic obligation is for Muslims to unite for the sake of their Deen and their Ummah. This unity can only exist under Islamic rule — not under leaders tied to the West, whether directly or through client states surrounding Yemen.

To our people in Yemen: We, in Hizb ut Tahrir, reiterate to you that there is no solution to your problems and the problems of all Muslims except through Islam and its state the Khilafah (Caliphate). It is the only legitimate form of governance in Islam, the path to your dignity and prosperity, and your salvation in this dunya and Akhira.

Allah Almighty says:

[وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْ ذِكْرِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضَنْكاً وَنَحْشُرُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَعْمَى]

“And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.” [Ta-Ha: 124].
