RasulAllah (saaw) described the Imam of the Muslims (Khaleefah) as a shield. «إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ جُنَّةٌ يُقَاتَلُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ وَيُتَّقَى بِهِ» “Indeed, the Khaleefah is a shield, from behind whom you fight and by whom you are protected.”
