The head of Pakistan's armed forces, General Raheel Sharif, stated on 20 April 2016 that there is a need to ensure "across-the-board accountability" in the country and the very next day news of the forceful retirement of six military officers due to financial corruption dominated the media. Then on 22 April 2016, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, addressed the nation and condemned the allegations of financial corruption leveled against him and announced that if the judicial commission rules against him, he will step down.
