Same-Sex Marriage: US Supreme Court Gives Gay Marriage Historic Boost:

For gay rights, the Supreme Court gave the nation's legally married gay couples equal federal footing with all other married Americans on Wednesday and also cleared the way for same-sex marriages to resume in California. Gay-rights supporters cheered and hugged outside the court. Opponents said they mourned the rulings and vowed to keep up their fight. In the first of the narrow rulings in its final session of the term, the court wiped away part of a federal anti-gay marriage law, the Defense of Marriage Act that has kept legally married same-sex couples from receiving tax, health and pension benefits that are otherwise available to married couples. Justice Anthony Kennedy, joined by the four liberal justices, said the purpose of the law was to impose a disadvantage and "a stigma upon all who enter into same-sex marriages made lawful by the unquestioned authority of the states." President Barack Obama praised the court's ruling against the federal marriage act, labeling the law "discrimination enshrined in law." "It treated loving, committed gay and lesbian couples as a separate and lesser class of people," Obama said in a statement. "The Supreme Court has righted that wrong, and our country is better off for it." (Source: Associated Press)

Activists say Syrian Death Toll Tops 100,000:

Syrian activists say more than 100,000 people have been killed since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced its latest count Wednesday, saying the figure included 18,000 rebels and about 40,000 pro-Assad fighters. The United Nations said earlier this month nearly 93,000 people were confirmed dead, but that the actual number is probably much higher. (Source: Voice of America)

Afghan Revelations: Pakistan-US Secret Diplomacy Created Doha Roadmap:

Months-long painstaking and secret negotiations involving Islamabad and Washington have yielded a detailed roadmap for steering negotiations with the Afghan Taliban which will start to unfold with the release of five Afghan prisoners from Guantanamo Bay and the return of the captured US soldier PFC Bowe Bergdahl, at present in Taliban custody. While the opening of the Taliban office in Doha, Qatar, has captured headlines across the world, wide-ranging interviews with highly-placed diplomatic, military and foreign office sources reveal that this office is but one of the many elements of a complex process, the ultimate aim of which is for all stakeholders in Afghanistan to share power through an inclusive election process under a possibly modified Afghanistan constitution. "The journey begins now and if all goes well should co-terminate with the exit of the American combat troops and holding of elections in Afghanistan that brings everyone onboard," says a diplomatic source who has been involved in this process. Other elements of this process are complete reconciliation with the Taliban led by Mullah Mohammed Omar, multiple-level dialogue between the Taliban and non- Pashtoon groups, agreement on the constitutional framework to govern Afghanistan after safe and trouble-free exit of the US forces from the Afghan soil, gradual cessation of kinetic operations and crucially, dispensing with Hamid Karzai in the political sense in case he tries to subvert peace efforts. There is little doubt in anyone's mind that this road is slippery and with no guaranteed success. However, a near-complete and rare alignment of views between the US administration and Pakistan's policymakers achieved through a robust and out-of-media-glare talks has created space for ‘pulling this one off', says the source. "There has been some direct dialling between Pakistan and John Kerry, the US Secretary of State, working under clear guidelines from president Obama," says one of Pakistan's top negotiators.(Source: The Express Tribune)

Myanmar Gives Official Blessing to Anti-Muslim Monks:

The Buddhist extremist movement in Myanmar, known as 969, portrays itself as a grassroots creed. Its chief proponent, a monk named Wirathu, was once jailed by the former military junta for anti-Muslim violence and once called himself the "Burmese bin Laden." But a Reuters examination traces 969's origins to an official in the dictatorship that once ran Myanmar, and which is the direct predecessor of today's reformist government. The 969 movement now enjoys support from senior government officials, establishment monks and even some members of the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD), the political party of Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. Wirathu urges Buddhists to boycott Muslim shops and shun interfaith marriages. He calls mosques "enemy bases." Among his admirers: Myanmar's Minister of Religious Affairs."Wirathu's sermons are about promoting love and understanding between religions," Sann Sint, minister of religious affairs, told Reuters in his first interview with the international media. "It is impossible he is inciting religious violence." Sann Sint, a former lieutenant general in Myanmar's army, also sees nothing wrong with the boycott of Muslim businesses being led by the 969 monks. "We are now practicing market economics," he said. "Nobody can stop that. It is up to the consumers." President Thein Sein is signaling a benign view of 969, too. His office declined to comment for this story. But in response to growing controversy over the movement, it issued a statement Sunday, saying 969 "is just a symbol of peace" and Wirathu is "a son of Lord Buddha." Wirathu and other monks have been closely linked to the sectarian violence spreading across Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. Anti-Muslim unrest simmered under the junta that ran the country for nearly half a century. But the worst fighting has occurred since the quasi-civilian government took power in March 2011.(Source: Reuters)

The Answer to the Question: The seeking of the Nusrah (support to establish the rule) To Okab Alhak

  • Published in Q&A
  •   |

Question:

Assalamu Alaikum,

It is mentioned in the book, Structuring of a Party (At-Takattul), about the reaching of the rule by way of the Ummah and the actions associated with seeking the Nusrah. Is seeking Nusrah part of the interaction stage or is it from the stage of reaching the rule? Please clarify and provide detail as before.

Answer:

Wa Alaikumus Salaam Wa Rahamatullahi wa Barakaatuhu,

Seeking the support to change the rule (Talab An-Nusrah) occurs at the end of the interaction stage. Thus if the people of power respond positively and they are capable of effecting change, then the third stage would have arrived by the permission of Allah. And we have detailed this issue in our books and in particular ‘Al-Minhaj'. Here are a few clarifying points for you:

1.    The Messenger of Allah (saw) began seeking the Nusrah during the interaction stage. When Abu Taalib died, the Makkan society was stationary and closed to the Messenger of Allah (saw). After the death of Abu Taalib the harm of the Quraish against the Messenger of Allah (saw) became more severe in a manner that they were not able to do whilst his uncle Abu Taalib was still alive. As such the protection afforded to the Messenger (saw) was weaker than it had been in the days of Abu Taalib. So Allah (swt) revealed that he should present himself to the Arab tribes to request their protection and Nusrah so that he would be able to convey from Allah that which he had been sent while he was secured and protected. Ibn Katheer has related in his Seerah from ‘Ali Bin Abi Taalib (ra) that he said: "When Allah commanded His Messenger to present himself to the Arab tribes, he went out with me and Abu Bakr to Mina until we came across a council from amongst the Arab gatherings." Ibn Katheer also related from Ibn ‘Abbass from Al-Abbass (rah) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (saw) said:

لا أرى لي عندك ولا عند أخـيك مَنَعَة، فهل أنت مخـرجي إلى السوق غداً حتى نقرّ في منازل قبائل النـاس

-وكانت مجمع العرب- قال: فقلت هذه كِنْدَة وَلَفُّها، وهي أفضل من يَحُجُّ من اليمن، وهذه منازل بكر بن وائل،

وهذه منازل بني عامر بن صعصعة، فاختر لنفسك، قال: فبدأ بكندة فأتاهم

"I do not find that I have prevention (i.e. the power of protection) in you and your brother, so are you going out to the market tomorrow with me so that we can spend time in the abodes of the tribes of the people... He said: So I (Al-Abbaas) said: This is Kindah and they are the best from those who have to come for the Hajj from Yemen, and these are the dwellings of Bakr Bin Waa'il, and these are the houses, and these are the dwellings of Bani ‘Aamir Bin Sa'sa'ah. So you choose which one to go to. He (Al-Abbaas) said: So he began with Kindah and went to them."

2.    From that time, it was clear to the people of power from the tribes that the Messenger of Allah (saw) was requesting their Nusrah. It was clear to them that what was being requested was that they protect the Messenger (saw) and that they make his foothold firm by establishing an entity amongst them that implements the rules of Allah (swt) i.e. they understood explicitly and clearly that the Nusrah was for purpose of the establishment of a State that rules and performs Jihad... It is for this reason that Banu Aamir Bin Sa'sa'ah said to him when the Messenger (saw) requested their Nusrah:

"What is your opinion if we were to give you the Bayah (pledge) upon your matter and then Allah grants you dominance over those who oppose you, will the matter (rule) fall in our hands after you?" He (saw) replied: "The matter belongs to Allah and He places it where he wishes to." So they said: Do you expect us to incur the vengeance of the Arabs and then when Allah makes you prevail then the authority will be in other than our hands? We have no need in your matter. And so they rejected him (saw)."

Hence they knew and understood that the Nusrah was the establishment of the State and they coveted to be its rulers after the death of the Messenger of Allah (saw). Similarly Banu Shaibaan said to the Messenger (saw) when he asked for their Nusrah,

"We have influence upon the two waters." The Messenger asked them about this and they said: ‘The rivers of Persia and the waters of the Arabs but we have a covenant between us and the Persians stating that we will not do anything against them or host anyone who will. And I view that this matter that you are calling to is a matter that which displease the kings. So if you would like for us to give you shelter and Nusrah in regards to the Arabs then we are at your service'. So the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: "You have not done wrong in your reply when you expressed yourselves honestly. However the Deen of Allah is not given support except by those who encompass it from all of its aspects (i.e. without conditions)." So they also understood that the Nusrah means ruling and Jihad against the Arabs and the non-Arabs. So they agreed to fight against the Arabs whilst they did not agree to fight the Persians.

3. Then when Allah (swt) decided the matter the second pledge (Bayah) of Aqabah came which represented the Nusrah for the establishment of the Islamic State in Al-Madinah. After that the third stage began which was the establishment of the State.

4. And it is clear from all of this that the seeking (requesting) of the Nusrah was before the third stage i.e. it took place in the interaction stage.

5. This is what the Hizb did when it began the work of seeking the Nusrah in the 1960's during the last century and still continues. And we ask Allah (swt) to honour this Ummah with the recurrence of the example of the first Ansaar to establish the Islamic State, the rightly guided Khilafah "Caliphate" and so that the Rayah of the ‘Uqaab, the Rayaah of the Messenger of Allah (saw) is hoisted high. And on that day the believers will rejoice with the victory from Allah.

Your brother,

Ata Bin Khalil Abu Al-Rashtah

Haze Chokes Singapore and Malaysia!

  • Published in News & Comment
  •   |

Event:

Global Voices Online - Since mid June until today, most areas in the Riau province of Indonesia, south western coast of Malaysia and Singapore are affected by thick hazardous clouds of haze which originated from the southern part of the Sumatera Island.  The source of the haze is mainly a 3,000 hectare peat land in the Bengkalis RegencyRiau Province, which was set ablaze by unknown parties on the 9th of June 2013. About 260 hotspots are observed in the Riau province and most of these hotspots are in areas owned by palm oil plantation companies. The ‘slash and burn' method to clear land for plantation carried out by small planters is commonly blamed for the occurrence of haze. However, the sheer area of haze coverage seen today points to the huge possibility that errant plantation conglomerates are to be blamed. Indeed, last week, the Indonesia government released a list of 20 local and foreign companies blamed for the fire. This is not the first time that the problem of haze has engulfed the area. In 1997 thick haze due to open burning of land in the same area brought about the demise of an Airbus flight belonging to Garuda Indonesia in 1997 where visibility was said to be only about 600 meters. Haze was also experienced in 2005, again, caused by land clearing in Sumatera Island.

Comment:

In addressing this issue, the problems must be seen in a wider context - that which covers human nature and the domination of thoughts that build human passion and uncontrollable desires. If we try to understand the motivation behind the open burning, we can see that the perpetrators are manifesting the very same instinct - the survival instinct. However, what distinguishes between the two groups of perpetrators - small planters and conglomerates - is the purpose of fulfillment of the instinct. For small planters, they burn the forest for a bowl of rice, for their livelihood, but for the capitalist conglomerates, they burn the forests for profit without regard of the consequences. Nevertheless, this difference is not a justification for the small farmers to burn forests to make ends meet. It is the responsibility of the authorities there to ensure that the basic needs of these farmers are met. It is also the responsibility of the authorities to impose adequate control on open burning of forests through strict enforcement of law. Obviously this did not happen. The haze episode recurred. Putting the issue in a deeper perspective, we can understand that the real problem lies in the ruthless behavior of capitalist conglomerates in their pursuit of achieving material prosperity at the expense of others and at any price. These companies will not bother to take responsibility, not even from a moralistic perspective for their behavior. The world is now suffering under the capitalist doctrine and is exploited in a manner which is contrary to the most basic of human values.

Islam does not forbid man from enjoying Allah's blessings, nor does it forbid him to work, nor gain earnings and wealth. On the contrary, Islam renders work necessary for the progress of the human life, and for man to carry out his duties. However, Islam does not accept that some people over consume while others suffer. Nor does Islam accept threats, harassment and disturbances befalling individuals, communities and nations in general. In the context being discussed, the episode of haze in South East Asia is a form of environmental disturbance and hazard to individuals, communities and nations. Allah's Law is implemented in its entirety, the haze episodes could be avoided definitively. Under the authority of Islam Shariah Laws related to open burning, which would cause problems to many parties, will be implemented as a matter of law and a matter of taqwa.

The fundamental solution to these environmental problems and human problems as a whole is to remove and discard the real reason, which has caused these problems, i.e. by a global rejection of the inhumane capitalist doctrine, which still controls the destinies of nations and embrace Islam as a holistic solution to the world's problems which will ensure mankind's happiness and tranquility. Islam's political, economic, social, environmental and other solutions are the only solutions which will save the world from the injustice and darkness of the capitalist system. Islam takes man from worshiping man to the worship of the Lord of mankind. And Islam takes people away from the injustice of man made doctrines and ways of life to the justice of the laws of Allah.
