Myanmar's Muslims are being slaughtered in front of the world's silence And the Country' criminal president calls for their expulsion!

In the first days of the blessed month of Ramadan, and after six successive weeks of the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Myanmar, which includes the systematic operations of slaughtering and expulsion, in the face of treacherous international silence, and in the deliberate absence of the Arab and international media, the scene looked to be a worldwide collusion against the Muslims of Myanmar, rather it looked a conspiracy to annihilate their presence there.

Olympics, Ramadhan and Qur'an

  • Published in Analysis
  •   |

Imagine as Ahmed lands a ferocious blow to Mohammed's head then follows it with a devastating upper cut. Mohammed retreats trying to recover quickly as he feels the gold medal slipping away from his grasp. We are in ramadhan, when Muslims feel an even deeper sense of brotherhood towards each other, however, brotherhood has nothing to do with this ferocious contest. Right now, what matters is glory for the individual and his country - whatever the cost. This could be the welter weight boxing final at the 2012 Olympics in London and Ahmed is representing Morocco while Mohammed represents Egypt. Represented at these Olympics are athletes from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and most of the Muslim countries. Forget the poverty, unemployment and a multitude of problems facing these countries. Right now, it is all about the Olympics and reaching the pinnacle of a sport. Forget even about whether a London based Muslim athlete is allowed not to fast during the Olympics, a fatwa from some sheik has taken care of that.

The participation of Muslim countries in the Olympics raises several issues.

Nationalism

Abu Da'wud related that the Messenger of Allah (saaw) said, "He is not one us who calls for `Asabiyyah, (nationalism/tribalism) or who fights for `Asabiyyah or who dies for `Asabiyyah." Islam came and bonded people upon the aqeedah (belief) regardless of their race, colour or place of birth. Islam categorically forbids nationalism or tribalism. In recent times however, nationalism, an alien concept, was imported into our societies. While it is on the wane, events like the Olympics are used to stoke nationalist sentiments. National flags are waved high and rulers promise lavish gifts and praise for those who "make the nation proud" by winning medals. We are suddenly told that we are Saudi, Pakistani, Kuwaiti, Indonesian e.t.c. So an ummah that fasts the same month worships the same Lord and faces the same qibla is suddenly divided from their brothers next door because of borders drawn up by colonial powers.

In addition to being forbidden, nationalism prevents us from addressing our problems with the collective wealth, energy and resources that Allah has blessed the ummah with. So Afghanistan was left alone to face the US and UK invaders rather being helped by Muslims next door.

Distraction

While many of the Muslim countries have devastating levels of poverty, while Muslims in Burma face oppression, while people starve in Somalia despite the abundance of wealth down the road in the Gulf, while oppression reigns in Syria, and while many other issues confront our societies, focus during the Olympics turns to creating the next star athlete that will "make the country proud". After the Olympic spectacle is over, these problems remain. What is worse is that time, effort, and energy has been diverted from them to a sporting and commercial spectacle in a far off land.

Sport, which has several benefits for human health and recreation, has been repackaged into a huge commercial event that consumes most of the world during the Olympics, football world cup and other global events. Allah (swt) reminds us in Sura Takathur about distractions from His obedience and from working towards the next life. A Muslim is always reminded that life is too short to be spent on trivial distractions like the Olympics.

Aspiration

What are the aspirations of your average Olympian? To run faster than the next man or woman! These same aspirations are now promoted to some of the youth in many Muslim countries. Such poverty of aspiration even extends to those governing our countries so you see them indulging building grand monuments as if that alone marks the success of a people. So Dubai has built world's tallest building and Saudi Arabia has built the world's largest clock in Makkah. However, when the world meets to debate solutions to the global financial crisis, the cure for malaria, the creation of world class medicines or solutions to poverty, no one talks of even looking to Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, or any other Muslim country because our countries have little to offer in terms of solutions. Indeed, our societies look to the Western nations for solutions.

Under the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" system, the Muslim ummah pioneered and excelled in science and technology and created societies where people of different races and religions lived in harmony - something not replicated even in today's technologically advanced West. Under the Khilafah "Caliphate", society's aspirations were dictated by the Qur'anic injunctions which spurred Muslims to be the best at solving human problems so as to fulfil a greater goal of being a model society that conveys Islam to mankind.

The real Olympics

There is another Olympic games between nations. The real competition that affects the lives of people daily is the global race to outline, enforce and convey the best way for human societies to be run. The Muslim ummah, which was given the Qur'an as guidance for the whole of mankind, is largely absent from that competition because the Islamic state, which implements the Islamic solutions to societal problems, is absent from the world. Indeed, our societies have chosen to emulate the casino capitalism in the economic sphere, whilst copying democracy as a system of government and emulating other secular Western systems and values. The western dominated global media, western governments and their policies, militaries and global institutions are used in this regard. This has left the field open to Western secular capitalist nations to propagate their values, systems and vices leaving billions suffering the effects. Mankind now inhabits a world of plenty where starvation exists, a world where democracy means that small elites rule on behalf of corporate interests and where injustice reigns. Is it not high time that Muslims realise our duty from Allah (swt) to once again re-establish the Islamic way of life by re-establishing the Islamic state in order to offer mankind an alternative vision of living and to save billions from the yoke of capitalism and secularism?

"Alif-Lam-Ra. This is a Book which We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad) in order that you might lead mankind out of darkness into light by their Lord's Leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise." [Surah Ibrahim :1]

Euro 'is doomed' warn experts as eurozone 'sleepwalks towards disaster':

The euro has broken down and faces collapse with 'incalculable economic losses and human suffering', according to an extraordinary warning from a group of leading economists. The 17 experts said Europe was 'sleepwalking towards disaster', adding that the situation in 'debtor countries has deteriorated dramatically'. 'The sense of a never-ending crisis, with one domino falling after another, must be reversed,' they said. 'The last domino, Spain, is days away from a liquidity crisis. The experts include two members of Germany's Council of Economic Experts and leading euro specialists at the London School of Economics, all of whom support the single currency. 'This dramatic situation is the result of a eurozone system which, as currently constructed, is thoroughly broken,' they added. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy attends a plenary session in Madrid to debate the country's borrowing costs in the hope of drawing up a budget for 2013.'The cause is a systemic failure. It is the responsibility of all European nations that were parties to its flawed design, construction and implementation to contribute to a solution. Absent this collective response, the euro will disintegrate,' they said in a joint report for the Institute for New Economic Thinking.

Tony Blair warns Obama, West ignorant of Islamic extremist threat:

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has warned that the West is not fully aware of how dangerous Islamic extremism is getting in the Middle East, and has questioned President Barack Obama's handling of Islamic relations. ''We must engage, but also challenge,'' Blair said in a recent interview with The Daily Telegraph. "The Middle East won't achieve democracy unless it understands that democracy is a way of thinking as well as voting. The key question is how the majority treats the minority.'' Addressing the religious conflicts currently gripping a host of African countries, stretching from Nigeria, Sudan, Mali, Tanzania and Kenya, where radical Islamists are waging war on Christians, Blair said that he thinks "the West is asleep on this issue," especially in regards to the mentality of the extremists. The former prime minister believes that extremists are deeply rooted in a belief that the West seeks to oppress Islam, making peace a very far off notion. Blair, who also famously converted to Catholicism, also said that Obama's outreach to Islam "tends to deal with the wrong people." As evidence he pointed to Obama's speech in Cairo in 2009, and the subsequent revolution that took place in the country. The uprising has led to the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, whose influence is being felt not only in Egypt but also in countries around the Arab world. The politician shared that he thinks globalization has also played a part in creating a global security risk, as it brings different people closer together and creates a "dominant security threat" related to culture and religion.

Bulgarian Muslims Victimized after Burgas Terrorist Attack - Chief Mufti:

Bulgaria's Chief Mufti's Office has complained of the public attitudes against the Bulgarian Muslims in the wake of last week's terrorist attack in the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Burgas. The July 18 terrorist attack in Bulgaria's Burgas, also known as the Burgas Bus Bombing, killed 5 Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian bus driver at the Sarafovo Airport near Burgas. The attack was later discovered to have been committed by a suicide bomber, whose origin is still unknown. The Bulgarian victim of the Burgas Bus Bombing was in fact from the ethnic Bulgarian Muslim community known as Pomaks. The institution has complained of the Bulgarian media and their attitudes towards Bulgarian Muslims as a result of the terrorist attack in Burgas. "Days of the terrorist attack in Burgas, the Bulgarian media irresponsibly keep publishing opinions about a potential link of the Bulgarian Muslims and their cooperation in the conducting of the terrorist attack and a threat of new similar actions. We are deeply worried by the fact that these unfounded media insinuations are occurring during the Holy Month of Ramadan," the Chief Mufti's Office said. According to the Bulgarian Chief Mufti's Office, the Bulgarian Muslims have become a "moral victim of the society and the media through incompetent and biased manipulative insinuations." "It is perplexing why the government, politicians, public figures, and academia have not expressed a position regarding this deep injustice," the Chief Mufti's Office concludes.

Burma's monks call for Muslim community to be shunned:

Monks who played a vital role in Burma's recent struggle for democracy have been accused of fuelling ethnic tensions in the country by calling on people to shun a Muslim community that has suffered decades of abuse. In a move that has shocked many observers, some monks' organisations have issued pamphlets telling people not to associate with the Rohingya community, and have blocked humanitarian assistance from reaching them. One leaflet described the Rohingya as "cruel by nature" and claimed it had "plans to exterminate" other ethnic groups. The outburst against the Rohingya, often described as one of the world's most oppressed groups, comes after weeks of ethnic violence in the Rakhine state in the west of Burma that has left more than 80 dead and up to 100,000 people living in a situation described as "desperate" by humanitarian organisations. "In recent days, monks have emerged in a leading role to enforce denial of humanitarian assistance to Muslims, in support of policy statements by politicians," said Chris Lewa, director of the Arakan project, a regional NGO. "A member of a humanitarian agency in Sittwe told me that some monks were posted near Muslim displacement camps, checking on and turning away people they suspected would visit for assistance."

Nato supplies going smoothly through Pakistan: US:

The transportation of NATO supplies through Pakistani border-crossings into Afghanistan is ‘working well' following the reopening of the ground routes, a State Department spokesperson has said. Questioned at the daily press briefing on Monday whether Washington would end its drone attacks against militant targets inside the Pakistani territory now that Islamabad has unblocked the supply routes, spokesperson Victoria Nuland said, "What I will say on Pakistan is that we've got good news with regard to the ground lines of communication (GLOC). "As you know, they've been open for some week and a half, two weeks now, and we have some 400 trucks either having passed or getting ready to pass through. And so that is working very well," the spokesperson added. But the spokesperson declined to answer the question about CIA's drone strikes, saying, "I'm not going to talk about intelligence issues." The Pakistani GLOCs were closed in November 2011 in protest against the deaths of 24 Pakistani soldiers in cross-border American aerial strikes on the country's border posts.

America's failure in Afghanistan spells the end of West's dominance in Eurasia

  • Published in Politics

"The West has already failed in Afghanistan, just as the Soviets failed in the 1980s and the British way back in the nineteenth century."--John Humphrys

After having fought for more than a decade in Afghanistan, America has yet to show any considerable gains for its brutal occupation. Nonetheless, there are some diehard American strategists who beg to differ, and argue that America has achieved its primary objective, which was to establish a few military bases in Afghanistan to counter Russia, China and the future Caliphate state for the eventual supremacy over Eurasia. But, even this lofty ideal when measured against the reality on the ground appears too remote to be categorized as a useful accomplishment. On the contrary, the rampant instability in Afghanistan not only puts into jeopardy the viability of such strategic objectives, but more importantly raises questions about how long can America afford to stay stuck in the Afghan quagmire and continue to post failure after failure.

Clues about this very prospect were provided at the NATO summit convened in Chicago back in May 2012. Speaking about America's ubiquitous nemesis the Taleban, Obama candidly admitted that they were a hardened opponent and whatever gains NATO had made could easily be undone. He said,"The Taliban is still a robust enemy, and the gains are still fragile. But think about it. We've been there now 10 years. Ten years in a country that's very different, that's a strain, not only on our folks but also on that country, which at a point is going to be very sensitive about its own sovereignty." Just how much time does the world's lone super power need with all of its sophisticated weaponry to defeat a rag tag army of no more than 25,000 or so? America has assembled under its supervision 400,000 soldiers-not to mentions the tens of thousands of private contractors- on both side of the Afghan-Pakistan border, and after several years of warfare it is still unable to crush them. Outgunned and outmanned Taliban are definitely proving to be more than a robust enemy.

Equally unfathomable is that it has taken several years for the US to accept the fact that NATO is not only fighting the Taleban but also the Afghan people. The reference to "be very sensitive about its own sovereignty" is an admission by president Obama that NATO faces a popular resistance which cuts right across ethnic fault lines and trumps traditional tribal loyalties.

Another fiasco of America's Afghan war is its exorbitant cost, which has placed a huge toll on the defense budget and this has been further exacerbated by the economic crisis of 2008. America has spent circa $550 billion on the Afghan war since 2001. Other NATO member states like Britain have spent in the region of $20 billion. Yet despite squandering billions of dollars of tax payers' money, NATO has very little to show. Karzai's government is corrupt to the core and hated by ordinary Afghans. Karzai's writ does not extend beyond parts of Kabul, and if it does exist elsewhere, it is totally reliant on foreign forces. According to some estimates Taliban controls around 80% of Afghanistan and this probably explains why it is so difficult for NATO to hold on to territorial gains. All attempts to coopt the Taliban into a political solution have also failed. The Financial Times summed up West's sorry state: "Five years ago the Americans were refusing to speak to the Taliban. Now the Taliban are refusing to speak to the Americans. That is a measure of how the balance of power has shifted in Afghanistan. The western intervention there has failed." Added to this is the human toll on NATO forces, which cannot be quantified in monetary terms. So it came as no surprise to find that the joint communiqué issued at the end of the Chicago summit expressed the collective desire of all the NATO countries to draw the curtain on their Afghan misadventure. The statement read: ‘After 10 years of war and with the global economy reeling, the nations of the West no longer want to pay, either in treasure or in lives, the costs of their efforts in a place that for centuries has resisted foreign attempts to tame It'.

Allah (SWT) says: "Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah . So they will spend it; then it will be for them[source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered. " [TMQ 8:36]

Whilst 2014 (a date revised several times) is the final withdrawal date for most NATO countries, America and her junior partner Britain both steeped in arrogance have still not learnt their lesson and plan to stay beyond this date. No doubt they will do their utmost to delay the inevitable collapse of Karzai's government and try and save face with their domestic populace. But the writing is on the wall; America and NATO are heading for a catastrophic defeat and no matter how hard they try to dress up their failings their only success will be to unite and embolden Afghans along with their brethren across the border in Pakistan to claim the scalp of Pax-Americana and deal a devastating blow to NATO's first ever mission in Eurasia.

"On that Day shall the believers rejoice- With the help of Allah, He helps whom He will, and He is Exalted In Might, Most Merciful." [30: 4-5]
