TO: THE HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS AND CIVIL SOCIETY

RE: Continuing Brutal Torture of Hizb ut-Tahrir Members and Activists by the Government of Bangladesh

Hizb ut-Tahrir  draws the attention of all human rights organizations based in Bangladesh and internationally, as well as the civil society in Bangladesh to the continuing brutal torture of the party's members and activists by the Government of Bangladesh (GOB); and calls upon the responsible executives and members of the human rights community, and the civil society to take up the issue with the GOB, pressing upon them the urgency of refraining from all forms of torture.

BACKGROUND AND FACTS

  1. The current GOB resorted to a policy of brutal repression against Hizb ut-Tahrir since February, 2009, when the party exposed Sheikh Hasina and her government's collaboration in the massacre of officers of the Muslim Army of Bangladesh. Party members and activists are regularly harassed and arrested. Up till now hundreds of party members and activists, along with the party's official spokesman, Mohiuddin Ahmed, have been imprisoned under false cases. They are denied bail despite plain and unambiguous grounds for granting them bail. Moreover any arrested party member or activist is always remanded in custody without fail, for no reason other than torturing them.
  2. Being true to their reputation, the Bangladesh police, RAB and the Task Force for Interrogation (TFI) subject the members and activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir  to inhumane torture using brutal means which include applying electric shock to their genitals, squashing them between slabs of ice for lengthy periods, blindfolding, stripping them naked, hanging them upside down and beating them severely etc.
  3. In continuing with the repressive policies against Hizb ut-Tahrir , the GOB instructed the police to launch a brutal attack on the party's programme on 13 August, 2011, at Muktangon, Dhaka. The police severely beat and injured many members and activists who had to be admitted to hospital for treatment. The police also arrested 16 members and activists of the party from the programme. They were subsequently remanded for various durations. During their remand they were ruthlessly tortured in the same brutal fashion as in previous occasions:

  • They were subjected to electric shock, applied to their genitals;
  • They were stripped naked and squashed between slabs of ice for hours;
  • They were blindfolded, tied, severely beaten and left hanging upside down; and
  • They were forced to stay standing, and deprived of sleep for nights.

NAMES OF THE TORTURE VICTIMS

  2. Asif Rahman, age 18
  3. Syed Abdullah, age 19

Hizb ut-Tahrir urges all human rights and civil society organizations, as well as the sincere individuals from the human rights community and civil society to fulfill their duty of defending all prisoners of conscience by insisting that the GOB immediately ceases the torture of the members and activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir .

Muslims of Egypt must work to reclaim Egypt for Islam!

  • Published in Politics
  •   |

It has taken around six months for the deposed tyrant Hosni Mubarak to finally appear in court to face 'justice' before the nation. The Egyptian state-run media-an obedient tongue of the military junta-greeted Mubarak's court appearance with extraordinary headlines: "Mubarak in the cage ... Now the revolution has succeeded," blurted Al-Akhbar and "Mubarak and his regime present in the grip of justice," wrote the Al-Ahram. Egyptians, who for many years have lived under the tyranny of Mubarak's rule were captivated by his presence in court.  But for most Egyptians, Mubarak, guilty of heinous crimes, felt he deserved to be executed. According to a recent online poll conducted by the company YouGov, 60% of Egyptians wanted him executed. This is understandable, as ordinary Egyptians have a long litany of complaints that speak volumes against the despot. Routine torture, false imprisonment, extra judicial killing of political opponents are among many that top the list. However,  the nation could barely conceal their disgust when it emerged that after Mubarak's  removal  the wretched dictator had amassed an enormous personal fortune estimated to be in the region of $70 billion- all at the expense of his people who lived in squalor and abject poverty.

The public show casing of the trial is no accident, but a desperate attempt by his erstwhile friends in the military to save their own skins and extend protection to America's waning hegemony over Egypt.  At first, the military pretended to be the ‘guardians of the revolution', but in the months that followed, Egyptians came to realize that the military had supplanted Mubarak- through a bloodless coup- only to continue with the same draconian laws and pro-American policies that were the hallmark of  the Mubarak era.

In fact, America has been extremely active in orchestrating changes on the ground to deflect the momentum of the revolution and accommodate the Islamic aspirations of the millions of Egyptians.  The latter is America's real concern. In April 2011, a Pew poll highlighted that 60% of the population wanted Islamic law. In fact, so deeply ingrained is the desire for Islam amongst Egyptians that Egypt's  widely circulated newspaper Al- Ahram continues to carry its increasingly pro-Islamic editorials; on the 8th of August 2011 it read 'Sharia state would preserve life, justice'.  None of this bodes well for the longevity of America's control over Egyptian affairs.

Unsurprisingly then, is to find American officials tampering with the ongoing constitutional reforms, preparations for the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections, aid to civilian groups and the recent deployment of the Egyptian army in North Sinai to prevent unwarranted disruption of gas supply to the Jewish State. Additionally, America through its agency USAID has hitherto this year, channeled $105 million towards nurturing civil institutions and civilian groups to champion pro-American reforms.

Egyptians, who have thrown away the shackles of fear, laid bare their chests in front of security forces and resounded on the military junta's ties with America have quickly become threats to Washington's strategists. The Egyptian public is incensed by this blatant American interference to shape the new political landscape. This has forced the army to take a strong stance against them. The military has waded into the debate by describing the recipients of these US funds as activists funded by foreigners.  However, this puts the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) that is presiding over Egypt in an ugly predicament. The United States has given Egypt an average of $2 billion annually since 1979, much of it military aid, according to the Congressional Research Service. The combined total makes Egypt the second largest recipient of U.S. aid after Israel. In 2010, $1.3 billion went to strengthen Egyptian forces versus $250 million in economic aid. Egypt also receives hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of excess military hardware annually from the Pentagon.

In other words, ordinary Egyptians are not only able see through the hypocrisy of SCAF, but more significantly are growing more anti-American and are venting their fury at SCAF through daily demonstrations.  Furthermore, the military is undermining its own credibility as an honest broker ahead of the upcoming elections by cozying up to Washington. The recent visit of Major General Mohamed El-Assar to Washington only serves to underscore in the eyes of Egyptians that the scope and magnitude of  the military's ties with America is not in the interest of the nation. The stench of this relationship is no longer bearable for many, but in the near term the nexus between SCAF and America is expected to survive.

This is because what allows the US and her surrogate the Egyptian military to continue to have an  upper hand over Egyptians is that the opposition is divided, and are  to some degree  leaderless too.  Indeed, there is the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed ElBaradei, Amr Musa and others. But these so-called leaders are becoming increasingly unappealing to the Egyptian masses because of their close associations with foreign powers and their ever-shifting opinions on the role of Islam in society. Within in this context,  it important for the Egyptian masses to coalesce around a common agenda that helps them distinguish between those leaders that can really liberate Egypt from the clutches of colonialism As opposed to those leaders who covet to use Islam to ensure the continuity of American hegemony. Below are some demands, which should be put forward to those who aspire to be the leaders of Egypt, so as to understand their vision and ideological orientation.

1- Shariah must replace all forms of criminal and civilian law. Economics, ruling, and foreign relations must be governed in accordance with Islamic law.

2- All foreign embassies, particularly those of America, Britain and France should be closed, and their personnel asked to leave the country immediately. All diplomatic channels with these countries must be terminated.

3- Egyptian army must renounce US military aid and sever its links with the American army. All US army personnel and those of other Western powers should be escorted out of the country.

4- Egypt must forsake all forms economic assistance from Western institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) , the Word Bank, as well as, the lending institution associated with the European Union.

5- Billions of dollars usurped by Mubarak and his acolytes must be placed in a trust, and disbursed according to Shariah rules for the benefit of the Egyptian people.

6- Egypt should actively block those Western powers from using the Suez Canal that are in an active state of war with the Muslim world.

7- Egypt must renege on its treaty with Israel, cut all diplomatic ties, stop the sale of gas and treat the Jewish state as the enemy of Muslims. Furthermore, Egypt should take all measures to liberate Palestine from the Zionist occupation.

8- Egypt must initiate steps to break down the artificial colonial borders with Sudan and Libya, and unify with these countries to form a single Islamic state.

9- Egypt must treat the Christians as dhimmis, and extend all forms of protection to safeguard their religion, property and wealth.

Use these demands as criteria to measure the sincerity to Islam of those who aspire to lead you. If they deviate even an inch then know they are not worthy of leading you.

The Muslims in Egypt already sacrificed much, and many brothers and sisters have had their pure blood spilt, and some have become Shaheed, the efforts need to be increase and excel the sacrifice, and campaign tirelessly for the above demands to be met. Allah reminds us in the Quran:

"Say: If it be that your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your mates, or your kindred; the wealth that ye have gained; the commerce in which ye fear a decline: or the dwellings in which ye delight - are dearer to you than Allah, or His Apostle, or the striving in His cause;- then wait until Allah brings about His decision: and Allah guides not the rebellious." [TMQ Taubah 9:24].

We shall Remember the rich Islamic history of Egyptians and how their forefathers stood firm for Allah's cause in the face of great adversity, without flinching an inch and refusing to compromise their Islam. Allah says:

((يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تَنْصُرُوا اللَّهَ يَنْصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ ))

"O you who Believe. If you help Allah, Allah will help you; and establish your feet firmly. [TMQ Muhammed 47:7].

We shall Remember there is no life better then the life under the Islamic system, which can only be implemented  through the re-establishment of Kilafah Rashdah. And only then total submission and obedience to Allah(SWT) will be complete.

"O you who believe, answer (the call of) Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life, and know that Allah intervenes between a person and his heart, and that to Him you shall be gathered."[TMQ Al-Anfal 8:24].

UBS report says death of Euro will lead to doomsday
According to a report released by the Union Bank of Switzerland entitled "Euro Break Up-The Consequences," the death of the euro is inevitable and the long-term effects of such an event will potentially include civil war, the collapse of international trade and sovereign default. The report lays the foundation of its assertions by declaring, "Under the current structure and with the current membership, the Euro does not work. Either the current structure will have to change, or the current membership will have to change."The same report calculates the cost of the withdrawal of any country from the euro zone, with much of the attention focused on Germany. The report reads:"Were a stronger country such as Germany to leave the Euro, the consequences would include corporate default, recapitalization of the banking system and collapse of international trade. If Germany were to leave, we believe the cost to be around EUR6,000 to EUR8,000 for every German adult and child in the first year, and a range of EUR3,500 to EUR4,500 per person per year thereafter. That is the equivalent of 20 percent to 25 percent of GDP in the first year." Some contend that focus on Germany may indicate that Germany may already be considering withdrawing from the euro. Zero Hedge reports: "The scariest thing, however, by far, is that for this report to have been issued, it means that Germany is now actively considering dumping the euro."

Is Erdogen fooling the people over ties with the Jewish State?
The Turkish government and opposition exchanged criticism over Turkey's handling of deteriorating relations with Israel on Wednesday, with the opposition claiming that Erdoğan's administration had led to UN legitimization of Israel's naval blockade on Gaza and a blow to Turkish prestige. Turkey will defend its honor against Israel regardless of the cost, responded Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan according to the Turkish daily Hurriyet. "Whatever the cost, be it 15 million dollars, or 150 million dollars... Turkey will not give value to that when necessary. What matters for us is to not let anyone trample on our honor," Erdoğan vowed.  Turkey's opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu of the Republican People's Party (CHP) also dismissed the recent downgrade in Turkish-Israeli diplomatic relations, saying that they "have no function other than deceiving the Turkish people," and claiming that the US radar to be placed in Turkey will be used to protect Israel.

Likelihood of all-out Middle East war increasing
The likelihood of an all-out regional war in the Middle East is increasing, the head of the Jewish State's Home Front Command said on Monday.  Speaking to the Institute for National Security Studies, Major General Eyal Eisenberg said that such a conflict could potentially include the use of weapons of mass destruction. Eisenberg cautioned that the Arab Spring could turn into the "Radical Islamic Winter".

Saudi prince: U.S. missed chance for Afghan withdrawal
The United States should have used the killing of Osama bin Laden to declare victory and quickly withdraw from Afghanistan and now faces an increasingly nationalist uprising in the country, a senior Saudi prince said on Wednesday. Prince Turki al-Faisal, a former Saudi intelligence chief and ambassador to Britain and the United States, said the Obama administration had not been given enough credit for removing the al Qaeda leader, who was shot dead by U.S. special forces in Pakistan on May 1. Al-Faisal said Obama should have used bin Laden's death to announce an immediate military withdrawal. "I don't mean withdrawing your embassy, your economic aid or your other support, but having troops on the ground in Afghanistan has never succeeded," he said. "I'm afraid America will come to a time -- whether it is next year or the year after or the year after -- when it will inevitably have to withdraw, and this would have been the perfect moment to leave with a victory and not to go on and sort of continue in this endless (conflict)." Al-Faisal, who over his career has had extensive contacts with a range of Afghan political factions, said it was clear the conflict no longer just involved the Islamist Taliban and its supporters in Pashtun tribal areas. "The Afghan people will not accept foreign troops ... They are going to fight them," he said. "It's not just Pashtuns who are fighting back against Americans, now it is gaining a nationwide complexion."Asked if U.S. efforts to move toward political talks with the Taliban led by Mullah Omar would bear fruit, al-Faisal said the time for that may have already passed. "I think now frankly Mullah Omar is extraneous," al-Faisal said. "All the information that we see is that he is probably somewhere in Pakistan, not even in Afghanistan, and it is becoming more of a nationalist resistance movement to the presence of foreign troops. So Mullah Omar will be one of many ... who are conducting the resistance."

Karachi violence: MQM tells US they are outgunned in Karachi
The Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) told the United States that the Mohajirs were outgunned by the Pashtuns in Karachi and talked of a conspiracy by the Pakistani establishment designed to keep Punjabis in power, claimed an April 2009 secret US embassy cable, released by Wikileaks. The wire, headlined MQM principles and conspiracy, covers a meeting of US Embassy Charge d'Affairs Gerald Feierstein with MQM leaders Farooq Sattar and Abbas Haider Rizvi. It said Rizvi became animated at the mention of his hometown. He reminded the US diplomat that he represented one of the most ethnically diverse districts in Karachi and, therefore, one of the most volatile. He claimed Taliban maintain safe houses and weapon stashes in Pashtun neighborhoods. Glossing over his own party's reputation for political retribution, Rizvi claimed Mohajirs were outgunned by the Pashtun. Sattar and Rizvi again asserted the conspiracy of Pakistan's establishment stoking ethnic rivalry, designed to keep Punjabis in power. The Charged d'Affairs met with Sattar and Rizvi to discuss their party's stance against the recently signed Nizam-e-Adl Regulation, their ideas for a GOP (government of Pakistan) response and the potential for violence in the mega-city their party controls. Sattar said he had predicted the failure of dialogue with the frontier militants and advocated a strong military response. He asserted that, though part of the ruling coalition, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had not confided any counter-terrorism strategic plans and surprised MQM (and apparently PPP members too) with an April 13 parliamentary resolution, endorsing the regulations. He suggested that all major political parties approach the Army to request immediate action against the Taliban. Rizvi complained that fellow coalition partner Awami National Party (ANP) was fanning Pashtun ethno-nationalism in Karachi, and still moving forward with plans for a controversial May 12 commemoration of 2007 intra-party violence.

Wikileak's Revelations: Traitors Within the Civilian and Military Leadership Again Exposed!

More recent revelations from Wikileaks have yet again exposed the traitors within the civilian and military leadership. The way in which the civilian leadership expressed happiness over the Raymond Davis and Abbotabad incidents and the way in which the military leadership responded, devoid of honour and valour, have made clear that they are as loyal to America as Musharraf was. Not to mention three People's Party Provincial Ministers keeping
