Judiciary failed to release the abducted members of Hizb ut Tahrir from the custody of government's secret agencies

Islamabad High Court has failed to release the abducted members of Hizb ut Tahrir from the illegal trappings of the agencies. By establishing a judicial commission, the court has thrown the ball into their court. Accordingly, by initiating investigations regarding the agencies, the court has ordered the agencies to make a police testimony. Also, the member of Hizb who was abducted and then released by agencies on 9 August in an abandoned street in Lahore, Abdul-Wajid, was presented to the media and testified that he was kept in an army punishment cell and could hear the sounds of army parades. For seven days he was kept on his feet, not allowed to sleep and subjected to grievous torture day and night in order to obtain the names and addresses of other members of Hizb ut Tahrir . There is no doubt that the government agencies are involved in the abductions of the members of Hizb ut Tahrir when one considers the testimony of Abdul-Wajid, smashing the car window to seize Hayyan Khan in broad daylight, Imran Yusufzai's phone call to his brother before abduction and the presence of Dr. Abdul-Qayyum's eleven year old daughter during his abduction and her witnessing of blue lights atop the agency vehicle.

What a ridiculous state of affairs that the judiciary in connivance with the traitors in the military leadership managed to spring the hired killer Raymond Davis from prison and send him back to America within a single day, but it has failed to release the members of Hizb from agency hands, despite weeks having passed and no FIR charge sheet having been filed against these highly educated and respected citizens. The people know well that the traitors in the military leadership are responsible for working to change the country into an American colony through operations in the tribal areas, granting visa to the CIA and Blackwater type organizations and granting permission for drone strikes. And these are the same traitors who are now abducting the members of Hizb ut Tahrir upon American instruction. But the traitors should know that victory is never for Shaytan, but for the Deen of Allah and His sincere servants who seek to implement it, even though the masters' of the traitors would detest it.

Global economic woes push Gold to a record of $1800, Tops Platinum
Only days after the S&P downgraded the U.S. credit rating from AAA and with France poising for downgrade, gold commodities hit another all-time high, soaring past $1800/oz. The price reached $1808.60 late in the day (18:42 EST GMT) after touching $1801 earlier, fluctuating back and forth between the record psychological barrier. Gold eventually closed at $1795.40. Silver reached $39.40, gaining slightly. Gold also surpassed Platinum, now at $1768/oz., which has historically held even more value, with a five year high of $2252/oz. This leads analysts to expect that $2000-2500/oz gold or higher is easily possible by the end of the year. Continuing low interest rates from the Federal Reserve printing press as well as the recent downgrade of the U.S. credit rating both serve to further weaken the economy and dollar day by day.

UK riots: Iran calls on UN to intervene over 'violent suppression'
Having already offered to send an expert team to investigate human rights abuses amid the riots, the Iranian regime has gone one step further and called on the UN security council to intervene over the British government's handling of the unrest rocking the country. Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, condemned the British government for its "violent suppression" of the protesters and called for an end to what he described as the "killing and brutal beating" of "the opposition" angry with the government's financial policies. "The real opposition are the people who are beaten up and killed on the streets of London, those whose voices are not heard by anyone," Iran's Irna state news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying. The foreign ministry, went so far as to issue a statement advising against any unnecessary travel to the UK. On Tuesday night, conservative websites sympathetic to the Islamic regime called on the Iranian government to offer refuge in its embassy in London to "UK protesters in need of protection".

Rights group: NATO must probe allegations it killed Libyan civilians
A leading human rights organization is demanding NATO investigate allegations that it killed 85 Libyan civilians during airstrikes on forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi. The demand by Amnesty International on Wednesday followed government accusations days earlier that NATO killed civilians in the western part of the country to help clear the way for rebels advancing on the Gadhafi-controlled city of Zlitan. "NATO continues to stress its commitment to protect civilians. To that effect, it should thoroughly investigate this and all other recent incidents in which civilians were reportedly killed in western Libya as a result of air strikes," Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui of Amnesty International said in a statement. Eighty-five civilians, including 33 children, were killed in airstrikes Monday near the village of Majer, Gadhafi's government said. NATO has said it does not have evidence of civilian casualties.  Libya has been mired in a civil war since shortly after a violent government crackdown in February on mass demonstrations calling for the end of the regime. A NATO-led bombing campaign against Gadhafi's forces began in March after the U.N. Security Council approved a resolution to protect Libyan civilians.

Syria army storms new towns
Syria's army stormed another two towns on Thursday in pursuit of anti-regime protesters, activists said, in defiance of Western calls for action after a "chilling" UN Security Council briefing.Tanks, troop carriers and buses transporting security force members sped soon after dawn into the town of Saraqeb in the northwestern Idlib province bordering Turkey, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said."Shooting was heard soon afterwards in the town, where protests demanding the fall of the regime have been staged every day after the evening (Muslim) prayers," the statement said. Later the rights advocacy group reported that security forces were "raiding homes and carrying out arrests, rounding up more than 100 people, including 35 children." "Army troops are smashing the doors of shops owned by activists in search of them, and they have cut off electricity in the town," a statement said. Further south, in the central province of Homs, columns of tanks entered Qusayr early on Thursday, a rights activist in the town said, reached by telephone."Residents fled into the fields and all communications have been cut with the town," the activist said. The operations came a day after security forces reportedly shot dead 18 people in the Baba Amro neighbourhood of the city of Homs, according to the latest toll provided by the Syrian Observatory.

COAS Kayani says `no` to operation in NWA again to US
Contrary to the peace process gaining momentum in Afghanistan, the US has once again pressed Pakistan to move against militants in North Waziristan. However, sources say Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has responded with an emphatic "no".  The demand to carry out an army operation against militants, especially those in North Waziristan, was renewed by US Ambassador Cameron Munter when he called on General Kayani on Wednesday. Director General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Athar Abbas, confirmed the meeting to Online. Saying that he was not privy to the meeting, he declined to give any details of what they discussed. In response to a question, the top army spokesman told this agency that the ambassador had requested to meet the COAS.  According to media reports, the army chief did not agree to the US demand to open a consulate in Balochistan. Well-placed sources, however, told Online that the issue was not discussed during the meeting since it was not in the purview of the army to decide on the matter.  When contacted US embassy spokesman Alberto Rodriguez said the meeting between General Kayani and Ambassador Munter was a private meeting and "we normally do not share details of private meetings with the media."

US to China: Why Do You Need an Aircraft Carrier?
As China's first aircraft carrier takes to the open seas today for its inaugural sea trials, the U.S. government directed a pointed question at the Chinese military: Why would you need a warship like that?  "We would welcome any kind of explanation that China would like to give for needing this kind of equipment," U.S. State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters today. "We have had concerns for some time and we've been quite open with them with regard to the lack of transparency from China regarding its power projection and its lack of access and denial of capabilities." Nuland said the State Department is concerned that the Chinese military is not "transparent" enough about its build-up which, in addition to the aircraft carrier, also includes the development of a fifth-generation stealth jet fighter believed to be capable of rivaling America's best.  "We are prepared to be extremely transparent with regard to U.S. military positions and equipment, and we'd like to have a reciprocal relationship with China, and that's what our presidents have said we ought to aspire to," Nuland said. "Transparency in itself is a confidence builder between nations."  Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng told reporters in China last month the ship, that was built from the shell of an old Soviet carrier, is only "for the purposes of technological research, experiments and training."

On 1 Ramadhan 1432 AH, 1 August 2011, Hizb ut-tahrir Wilayah Pakistan organized protests outside press offices to condemn the abduction of six of the shebaab. The persecution of the traitors is such that they have taken to following and tapping phones of the influential who are helping to secure the release of the shebaab. These abductions were an attempt to arrest the strong influence of Hizb ut-tahrir upon the society in order to please America. Upon receiving news of the abductions, people rightly asked themselves aloud, "Is this a Muslim country?" But the traitors should know that their efforts will not save them or delay their punishment before the courts of the coming Khilafah "Caliphate" inshaAllah.

Europe on Brink of ‘Major Financial Collapse': Guggenheim CIO
Europe is a "train wreck" and on the "brink of a major financial crisis," Scott Minerd, CIO of the fixed-income firm Guggenheim Partners, told CNBC Tuesday. The way Europe is operating right now, it's what I called recently ‘cognitive dissonance,'" Minerd said, or "basically doing the same thing thinking they're going to get a different outcome. They keep throwing more and more liquidity at it thinking it's going to get better and it's not," he added. Europe fails to recognize that it has a "structural problem, not a liquidity problem." People will "flee the euro" unless they find a way to bifurcate the euro in some way where strong countries are in the euro only and the weak countries are out, Minerd explained, adding, "To be honest with you, I don't see the mechanism to do that."

Italy approves draft law to ban burqa
An Italian parliamentary commission has approved a draft law banning women from wearing veils that cover their faces in public. The draft, which was passed by the constitutional affairs commission on Tuesday, would prohibit women from going in public wearing a burqa, niqab or any other garment that covers the face. It would expand a decades-old law that for security reasons prohibits people from wearing face-covering items such as masks in public places. Women who violate the ban would face fines, while third parties who forced women to cover their faces in public would be fined and face up to 12 months in jail. Italy is the latest European country to act against the burqa. France and Belgium have banned the wearing of burqa-style Islamic dress in public, as has a city in Spain. The Belgian law cited security concerns. The Italian law was sponsored by Souad Sbai, a Moroccan-born member of Silvio Berlusconi's conservative Freedom People party who said she wanted to help Islamic women integrate more into Italian society."Five years ago no one wore the burqa [in Italy]. Today there is always more. We have to help women get out of this segregation ... to get out of this submission," Sbai said in a telephone interview. "I want to speak for those who don't have a voice, who don't have the strength to yell and say: 'I am not doing well."

Worst in 60 years: Protracted drought hits Horn of Africa
According to the World Food Program, the southern and central areas of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia have been the hardest hit, with a total of 12.4 million people affected. On Wednesday, the United Nations declared three additional regions in Somalia as famine zones. The Horn of Africa is experiencing one of its worst droughts in 60 years In Somalia, the UN declared three new regions as famine zones on Wednesday, increasing the number of such zones to five where the highest rates of malnutrition and mortality are taking place. UN data also shows that across Somalia, nearly half of the country's population of 7.5 million are severely affected by the crisis. Among them, 3.2 million are in need of immediate, life-saving assistance.

Saudi Arabia plans world's tallest tower
Saudi Arabia's Prince Alwaleed bin Talal's investment vehicle, Kingdom Holding, has announced that an associate company will partner with the country's Bin Laden Group to build a tower near Jeddah that would replace Dubai's 828m Burj Khalifa as the world's tallest building. The associate company, Jeddah Economic Co, signed the SR4.6bn ($1.23bn) contract with the Bin Laden Group, a construction company, that will also own a 16.63 per cent stake in the company. Kingdom Co will hold 33.35 per cent. The 1km-tall building will include a Four Seasons hotel and apartments, luxury condominiums and offices. The tower is the first phase of the 5.3m square metre Kingdom City development to be built north of the Red Sea city of Jeddah, according to a statement on the Saudi bourse, Tadawul. Construction is due to start shortly and is expected to take just over five years. The design was inspired by a desert plant. The SR100bn Kingdom City development was unveiled shortly after the global financial crisis in 2008. Analysts then raised doubts over Kingdom Holding's ability to generate funding or investors' interest amid a global real estate crisis.  Prince Alwaleed, a nephew of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, controls 95 per cent of Kingdom Holding. With a net worth of nearly $20bn, he is the richest Arab businessman. His investments include substantial stakes in News Corp, Citigroup and Apple, as well as several luxury hotels.

IMF Stuns Analysts With Upbeat Iran Report
The International Monetary Fund gave a rosy portrayal of Iran's economy in a report issued Wednesday, saying it grew by 3.2 % in 2011, contradicting its earlier assessment and surprising Iran analysts who contend that the economy is shrinking. The new IMF report is based mainly on official Iranian data, independent economists said-rather than on a second set of economic statistics in Iran that is made by independent economists. The IMF's April regional report on the Middle East and Central Asia, which was based on the independent analyses, predicted a 0% growth rate for Iran. The country's central bank, a government entity, hasn't issued an economic growth report since 2008, prompting criticism from Iranian lawmakers recently that the bank was hiding the data under the order of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Iran had blasted the April report, calling it "politicized" and saying the IMF was acting under Western influence. After the criticism, the IMF sent a group of experts to Iran to review its report and "correct" it, Iran's deputy economy minister Mohamad Reza Farzin said in June after part of the new report was released. The IMF wasn't available for comment. The fund didn't say how much of the new report was based on official statistics and how much it had obtained independently.

36pc of Pakistanis undernourished
Leading aid and development charity Oxfam said 36 per cent of Pakistanis were undernourished, listing Pakistan among the 21 nations of the world which were found to be undernourished according to an interactive map published on Wednesday.  Pakistan was adjudged to be more undernourished than Tanzania (35 per cent), Niger (28 per cent) and Yemen (32 per cent) where nearly every third person was feared to be malnourished. The map showed how poor communities across the world were being adversely affected by high and volatile food prices. Oxfam says that food prices in Pakistan have hovered near an all-time peak since late 2010, sending tens of millions of people deeper into poverty and a famine-like situation. After decades of steady progress in the fight against hunger, the number of people without means to eat is again rising in Pakistan and could soon be at a dangerous level, it says.In Pakistan, nearly two-thirds of the population spend between 50 and 70 per cent of the income on food, making them vulnerable to rising prices, according to Oxfam. It is imperative for the government to develop a policy framework that not only checks the unjust food price hike but also reinvigorates the economy at the local level.

Starting Ramadan with a Clean Slate

  • Published in article
  •   |

As Ramadan begins, many Muslims review the best and worst moments of their lives.  Ramadan often signifies a clean slate by trying to overcome our shortcomings by molding into the best possible Islamic personality.  We repent for our previous sins and missteps in life. Hopeful and optimistic, many people make resolutions to change their lives for the better.  As Muslims, we must recount our actions and sentiments every single day as if it were our last day on this Earth.

Starting with a clean slate requires several duties and commitments from us. First through reflection on past actions and disposition (nafsiyah).  Were my actions Islamic and did I fulfill my duties properly and to the best of my potential?  Was my nafsiyah the best of character? Through accountability, one is able to grasp the depth of this trial and fully contemplate one's behavior to assess whether to be rewarded or punished by Allah swt.

"The believer sees his sin as a mountain beneath which he is sitting and which he fears it may fall down upon him. The rebellious person sees his sin as a fly which passes in front of his nose and he swats it away..." (Reported by al-Bukhari.)

Secondly, we should repent our sins through tawba with absolute sincerity and truly regretting our misguided actions.

"Allah swt says: O Son of Adam, as long as you supplicate to Me and have hope in Me I will pardon you in spite of what you have done, and I do not care. O Son of Adam, if your sins were so numerous as to reach the lofty regions of the sky, then you asked My forgiveness, I would forgive you, and I do not care. O Son of Adam, if you were to meet Me with enough sins to fill the earth, then met Me, not associating anything with Me (in worship), I shall greet you with its equivalent in forgiveness."  (Reported by at-Tirmithi.) Thus, despairing of Allah's mercy is Haraam. Allah (swt) says:

"...never give up hope of Allah's Mercy (rawh). Certainly no one despairs of Allah's Mercy, except the people who disbelieve." [Yusuf: 87].

And if we fail our Muslim brothers and sisters, we should also repent to Allah swt, regret our wrong-doing, and give them their due-right whether it may be inheritance, over-due monies, re-establishing family ties, or honoring any type of trust (amaneh).  Allah swt revealed,

{There is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allah's Cause), or Ma'ruf (all the good and righteous deeds which Allah has ordained), or conciliation between mankind.} [An-Nisaa: 114]. Thereby we need to rectify our situation for the present day and our future in the After-Life.

Ramadan provides us with a reason to work harder at improving ourselves and placing different aspects of our lives in perspective. Through obligatoris and nawafil, we are able to strengthen our nafisyah in order to become better Muslims.  Asking Allah swt for forgiveness and mercy in our prayers and supplications (dua'a) enables us to cement the bond between His servant and His Creator. Allah swt says,

"My servant will continue to draw closer to me through the nawafil until I love him. I will then be the heart with which he thinks, the tongue with which he speaks, the sight by which he sees, when he calls me I will answer him, when he asks me for something I shall give it to him, when he asks for my help I shall help him, and the most beloved of my servant's worship is the sincere advice (naseeha)."  In addition, al-Bukhari reported on the authority of Anas (ra) narrated that the Prophet (saw) related that his Lord said: "...And if My servant comes to Me walking, I would go to him speeding."

Through complete sincerity and earnestness, this bond fully blossoms and solidifies.   Reading and memorizing Quran, while applying the ahkam will fill our hearts with light and tranquility. Increasing nawafil prayers and reading Quran during the darkest hours of night elevates the spirit towards our Creator.  Asking for Allah's forgiveness and guidance to be bestowed upon His humble servant. Making dua'a and tasbeeh before the fajr prayer realizing Allah swt descends to the nearest sky to answer His believer's prayer.  Abu Hurayrah (ra) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said:

"Allah will give shade to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His... and a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes become flooded with tears."

Making this part of our clean slate, we need to purify our heart of any ill feelings towards our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. The Prophet pbuh said,

"A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim.  He neither oppresses him nor deserts him.  Whoever helps to remove the hardship of his brother, will have his difficulties removed by Allah in this world and in the Hereafter.  One who covers the shortcomings of another Muslim, will have his faults covered up in this world and the next by Allah."  We need to free ourselves from hatred, envy, and jealousy towards one another, giving the benefit of the doubt when one errs. Forgive our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters so we can receive Allah's rewards in the Hereafter. 'Abd Allah b. 'Amr b. al-'Aas (ra) that the Prophet (pbuh) said:

عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ((اتَّقِ اللَّهَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْتَ وَخَالِقْ النَّاسَ بِخُلُقٍ حَسَنٍ وَإِذَا عَمِلْتَ سَيِّئَةً فَاعْمَلْ حَسَنَةً تَمْحُهَا)) مسند احمد

"Show compassion to people and you shall be shown compassion, forgive others and you shall be forgiven."   As resentment and hatred fills the heart, this slowly diseases the Ummah instead loving and caring for one another as one entity.  As Ibn al-Qayyim said, "If the heart is sick, the forbidden becomes attractive and obedience of Allah becomes something you look at with contempt."  We would become pre-occupied with these ill feelings instead of focusing on the greater goal of the Ummah-removing the greatest munkar in our lives.

Thirdly, we need to be fully knowledgeable in areas concerning our lives. By answering the following questions with sincerity and honesty, we are able to gauge ourselves.  What are our duties and roles in this life? Are we living according to Islamic values to our fullest potential?  Are we fully aware of the Islamic fiqh regarding our actions carried out in our daily lives? Realizing that we need to rid our precious Ummah of the greatest munkar-living under highly oppressive man-made regimes resulting in misery and despair, our courageous Ummah has boldly risen up against their tyrants. Inshallah through the blessed month of Ramadan our efforts are not wasted.  Allah swt says,

{Then if there comes to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My Guidance shall neither go astray, nor fall into distress and misery. But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur'an nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection. He will say:"O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind, while I had sight (before)." (Allah) will say: "Like this, our signs came unto you, but you disregarded them (i.e. you left them, did not think deeply in them, and you turned away from them), and so this Day, you will be neglected (in the Hell-fire, away from Allah's Mercy)} [Taha: 123-126].

Indeed, it is a bleak outlook if we continue to struggle through this life without the complete blessing and radiance of Islam guiding us out of this harsh darkness.  By living under man-made systems to run our affairs with complete tyranny, we must recognize and work for a better way to live.  We must struggle in uniting the Muslim lands under the Islamic State.  This is our most important duty: eradicating the greatest munkar in our lives.  Whoever dies without a baayah dies the death of a jahiliyah.   We must work wholeheartedly to resume an Islamic society without any fear or hesitance for our lives or livelihood.  Indeed Allah swt is the greatest Protector over His servants.

Inshallah this year will be a prosperous and glorious year for the Ummah worldwide in which we follow the blessed Prophet Mohammad's example.  Inshallah, we educate ourselves with the valuable knowledge necessary to remove the harsh darkness that encapsulates us. We ask Allah swt to fill our hearts with taqwa and sincerity to lead us to the highest of heavens. May Allah swt ease our burdens and allow us to persevere through any obstacles. Ameen.
