Press Release Speaking the word of Haqq against the tyrant ruler is duty demanded by the Muslims' Iman

Members of Hizb ut-Tahrir delivered public speeches after Jummah prayers today outside various mosques across Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong. The speakers addressed the musallis on the topic of "Speaking the Word of Haqq against Tyrant Rulers is a Duty demanded by the Muslims' Iman." The speakers said the rulers who rule in the Muslim world today clearly violate the obligations and responsibilities of the ruler as defined by Islam. They said Islam has clarified the obligations and responsibilities of the ruler in the Qur'an and the Sunnah; in general terms they are:
1. To rule by what Allah (swt) has revealed in internal and external affairs;
2. To act as the guardian of the people and look after their affairs; and
3. To protect the Ummah from her enemies and defend her interests.

The speakers said the current rulers in Bangladesh are no different from the current rulers in rest of the Muslim world. For the past 40 years the Awami-BNP rulers have rejected Allah's commands and prohibitions; and have ruled the country by the abhorrent, man made democratic system borrowed from the disbelievers. They have not been satisfied with failing to look after the people's affairs and secure their basic needs; rather went beyond that to sucking the blood of the people for successive decades, looting the Ummah's wealth and handing over Ummah's wealth to their disbeliever-polytheist masters. Not only that, the Awami-BNP rulers allied with the disbeliever-polytheist states, US-Britain-India; and failed to resist their conspiracies and aggression against the country. This is how these rulers have betrayed Allah (swt), His Messenger (saw) and the Muslims.
From the day one of taking power Sheikh Hasina and her government has acted against the Qur'an, the Sunnah and the Ummah. They collaborated with India in the killing of army officers in Pilkhana to destroy the country's defence forces; granted transit to India; consolidated the foothold of the killers of Muslims, and mass murderers, the US and Indian militaries in the country; adopted policies against Qur'an-Sunnah; and directed a crusade against Islamic policies. Indeed the list of the heinous crimes of the Hasina government is endless.
The speakers reminded the musallis that speaking the word of haqq against the current kufr ruling system and the treacherous, tyrant rulers is a duty demanded by the Muslims' iman. Muhammad (saw) said,
"The best Jihad is (to say) a word of truth before an oppressor ruler."
He (saw) also said,
"The master of martyrs is Hamza b. Abdul Muttalib and a man who stood to an oppressor ruler where he ordered him and forbade him, so he (the ruler) killed him."
These ahadith are clear and decisive statements regarding the obligation upon Muslims to order the ruler with good, restrain him from evil, speak the word of truth against him and account him strongly. In fact Muhammad (saw) has described this work as the best Jihad.
Finally the speakers called upon the Muslims to fulfil this noble duty; otherwise they will have to face the wrath and punishment of Allah (swt) for remaining silent against the kufr ruling system and tyrant rulers. The Prophet (saw) said,
"The people when they see the tyrant and do not restrain his hands, Allah will be about to punish them all."

Arab uprisings and the ‘Democratic dividend' - just ask Nigeria, Pakistan or Bangladesh

  • Published in Politics
  •   |

Definition of Dividend: A bonus. An unexpected gain or benefit.

What will the just concluded elections in Nigeria be remembered for? The post election violence in parts of the country which left up to 500 dead, 740,000 displaced and Churches and Mosques burnt? The logistical shambles that lead to it being postponed for a week? Or that a new president has been elected? For different people, it will be some or all of the above. However, for most common people struggling to survive in Africa's largest exporter of oil, and a country blessed with innumerable natural resources, few have much conviction that these elections will improve their lot. Afterall, the last two ‘democratic' elections have not delivered. Yes, some things have changed. The press is freer, people no longer live under a military dictatorship, most people have a mobile phone and a tiny section of society has grown fabulously rich. Yet chronic lack of electric power cripples business and many other aspects of life. Indeed, many would argue that their economic and security situation has worsened.

What about the ‘Democratic dividend'? The promise that the return to democratic rule 12 years ago would herald a new dawn for the people of Nigeria. What has clearly been created is a large and wealthy political class of ministers, governors, senators, and advisers at a local and national level. These have grown rich and enjoy all manners of privilege so much so that election to one of these bodies has become a do or die issue because it guarantees wealth and privilege for one's family, friends and contacts. The common man sees his affairs largely neglected by the state and has to accept this because "that is democracy" and is told that the democratic dividend will occur someday i.e. that by adopting democracy, society will one day reap the benefits of better public services, security, better infrastructure, end to corruption, eradication of poverty, better electricity e.tc. When will this be delivered? No one seems to know for sure, though politicians promise it will be soon!

This has lead some to conclude that since their situation worsened so much under democratic rule, then maybe it has something to do with their worsening situation. Many do not appreciate the fact that democracy and the right it gives legislators to be all powerful in drafting laws which influence and affect peoples lives has lead to a do or die for these posts, exacerbated religious, ethnic and regional tensions when "our candidate" doesn't win. Nor do they appreciate the masses disenfranchisement with democracy and the political classes in Europe and other ‘mature' democracies where many now fail to vote or engage with the political system which they see as benefiting only the few.

After the departure of Ben Ali and Hosni Mubarak and as elections approach in Egypt and Tunisia, there is an understandable debate about what system of government to adopt going forward. Some voices look to the West and advocate Western democracy and secularism arguing that it is the only way to guarantee the rights of Christians and women or the only way for the masses to have a political voice, accountable government or a general improvement in their standard of living. Again, the assumption is that there will be a ‘democratic dividend' which will benefit all in society. We need to remind such people of the recent example of Nigeria, Pakistan or Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina is running a police state that is imprisoning and terrorising political opponents though she was "democratically elected". Her government has failed to address the chronic poverty, unemployment or lack of infrastructure and continues to collaborate with India and other hostile powers to the detriment of the people of Bangladesh.

The ‘democratic' government of Pakistan headed by Prime Minister Gilani and President Zardari facilitate US drone attacks that kill people in Pakistan. In most societies that is called treason, but the West supports this treacherous government because it is a ‘democracy' which serves the agenda of western powers whatever the cost.

So in the current debates, not only can we highlight how secularism and democracy contradict the Islamic values, belief and history of the people in the Muslim world, we can also point to Nigeria, Pakistan and Bangladesh to show how the ‘democratic dividend' is a myth that fails to deliver much of what it promises.

Now is the time to tackle the many issues being raised by people during these uprisings: unemployment, end to the police state, lack of dignity, enslavement to Western powers, denial of a political voice, arbitrary arrest and imprisonment, unelected rulers e.t.c. and show how the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" system addresses these many issues and is the only system capable of truly addressing the needs of all people. Brothers and sisters have started to produce a series of videos illustrating how the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" system addresses these specific issues. We pray to Allah (swt) that these will be another set of tools that help to build conviction in this system sent down by our All Knowing Lord (swt).

"And We have sent down to thee the Book explaining all things, a Guide, a Mercy, and Glad Tidings to Muslims [TMQ An-Nahl 16:89]

News Details:

US knew Guantanamo detainees were innocent
The United States held hundreds of inmates who were either totally innocent or low-risk for years and released dozens of high-risk Guantanamo inmates, according to leaked classified files. The new leaks reveal that inmates were held without trial on the basis of often seriously flawed information, such as from mentally ill or otherwise unreliable co-detainees or statements from suspects who had been abused or tortured, The New York Times reported. The Times was among a group of US and European media outlets that also included The Daily Telegraph, NPR, El Pais, Le Monde, Der Spiegel and La Repubblica to receive 779 documents from the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks.

US helps Libyan rebels, fighting rages in west
The United States took steps to throw a financial lifeline to rebels controlling eastern Libya while forces loyal to Muammar Qadhafi focused their firepower on pockets of resistance in the west. The United States voiced confidence in the Benghazi-based main opposition council Wednesday as the US Treasury moved to permit oil deals with the group, which is struggling to provide funding for the battle-scarred areas under its control. The order by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control may help to clear up concerns among potential buyers over legal complications related to ownership of Libyan oil and the impact of international sanctions. The first major oil shipment from rebel-held east Libya, reported to be 80,000 tonnes of crude, was expected to arrive in Singapore on Thursday for refuelling but oil traders told Reuters finding a buyer was not straightforward, with many of the usual traders still worried about legal complications.

Syrian Tanks Roll Into Cities as Security Crackdown Kills At Least 20
Witnesses say several thousand Syrian army troops, flanked by special forces, shot their way into the southern city of Daraa before dawn Monday, causing numerous casualties. Tanks reportedly began the assault, shelling the city as they moved in from four sides. Videos distributed by human rights activists show black smoke over the city center and fires burning as shell-fire crackled in the background. Reports say Syrian special forces stormed private homes to make arrests, Witnesses say snipers began shooting from rooftops and many victims remain lying in the streets. The crackdown came as Syrian government media condemned what was called the "crimes of armed gangs" and "outside plots to divide the country." Syrian television reported that 15 members of the army and security forces were killed in recent violence.

Afghan military pilot kills 9 Americans in Kabul
Eight U.S. troops and an American contractor were killed early Wednesday when a veteran Afghan military pilot fired on trainers during a meeting in a military compound near Kabul International Airport. The Taliban claimed responsibility in what it said was the latest attack by an insurgent infiltrator. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Elizabeth Robbins, a Pentagon spokeswoman, confirmed that all nine foreigners killed were Americans. Such attacks are part of a Taliban strategy to undermine the Afghan population's faith in NATO troops and their own security forces as the U.S. prepares to begin drawing down its forces this summer, said Martine van Bijlert, co-director of the Afghanistan Analysts Network, a Kabul-based think tank. "The image they're portraying is, 'We're everywhere,'" she said of the Taliban. "'We're the one who are staying and we can go wherever we want.'"

Pakistan's ISI spy service listed as terrorist group by US
US authorities describe the main Pakistani intelligence service as a terrorist organisation in secret files obtained by the Guardian. Recommendations to interrogators at Guantánamo Bay rank the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISI) alongside al-Qaida, Hamas and Hezbollah in Lebanon as threats. Being linked to any of these groups is an indication of terrorist or insurgent activity, the documents say. "Through associations with these ... organisations, a detainee may have provided support to al-Qaida or the Taliban, or engaged in hostilities against US or coalition forces [in Afghanistan]," says the document, dated September 2007 and called the Joint Task Force Guantánamo Matrix of Threat Indicators for Enemy Combatants. It adds that links to these groups is evidence that an individual poses a future threat.

Radioactivity seawater near Fukushima 20-thousand times higher than permissible annual standard
The amount of radioactivity in seawater near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is about to hit the highest-ever level recorded in history. According to the Asahi Shimhun on Sunday, officials measured 1-hundred-86 becquerels per liter of radioactive substances in the sea just 34 kilometers from the crippled power plant on April 15th. This level is about 20-thousand times higher than the permissible annual standard set by the Japanese government. The highest level of contamination in history was 2-hundred becquerels per liter in the Irish Sea in the 1970s when a nuclear fuel reprocessing factory discharged cesium-137. Meanwhile, Tokyo is reportedly considering building an underground wall near the Fukushima power plant to contain the spread of radioactive material through soil and groundwater.

Bangladesh Stock Market Scam: Only Khilafah Can Try the Criminals & Stop this Looting Machine known as ‘Stock Market'

  • Published in Politics
  •   |

On 7th April 2011, the chairman of the `stock market scam probe committee' Mr. Ibrahim Khalid has formally handed over the much talked about probe report on stock market scam to the government. Mr. Khalid, who has been the ex-deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank and current chairman of Bangladesh Agriculture Bank, was given the responsibility by the Sheikh Hasina government to inquire into the biggest stock market crash in the country's history over the period from December 2010 to January 2011. The debacle of the stock market was so vast that more than 3.3 million people (small investors) were directly affected and virtually lost all of their investment and almost 12-15 million people have been indirectly affected in the process. Most unofficial estimates suggest that, a total of 120 billion BD Taka or US $1.7 billion has been the total loss during the period.

The collapse was so visible that all the small investors could see their hard earned lifelong savings getting vanished almost the way ice melts. Especially on January 9, 2011 the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) suffered the steepest ever single-day fall in the bourse's 55-year history. The DSE General Index (DGEN) plunged by 600 points, and all indices fell nearly 8 percent in the wake of panic-sales. Breaking the previous day's record, on January 10, DGEN shed 660 points or 9.25 percent between 11 am and 11:50 am. The capital market was shut; small investors turned vandalistic; and the business district of Motijheel was transformed into a battlefield between protesters and law-enforcers.

The government ministers and regulators during the most part of this economic mass destruction process through stock market has remained either silent or helped the process to further downfall of the market to ensure heavy sell pressure so that the manipulators behind the scene could make their gain out of small investor's money. During the month of October-November 2010 when the market was getting overvalued the government has tried to befool the people by portraying this bullish trend of the market as their success. The economic advisor to Prime Minister Dr. Moshiur Rahman and the Finance Minister A B M Muhith have argued that the rise in market is due to the competent economic policy undertaken by the Sheikh Hasina government and it is helping many young people in earning opportunities and thus solving unemployment problem. All of these was just bluff! As the market started to crash due to the manipulators exiting from the market by making profit, excessive sell pressure has instantly forced the market to cripple like iceberg and impoverish the masses. At that point the tone of the economic advisor, finance minister and the prime minister changed. While at the first half of the January 2011, most of the 3.3 million small investors were almost loosing everything, the economic advisor has said, "stock market is a gamble and thus it is the responsibility of those who invested there. Government has nothing to do with that." The prime minister went further in blaming pro-Islamic and nationalist opposition parties, illustrating the true nature of democratic politics, as the streets of financial capital Motijheel become battlefield on daily basis. The regulatory authorities including stock exchanges, Security and Exchange Commission, Bangladesh Bank, Ministry of Finance and Register of Joint Stock Companies all have prescribed different policies and changed those on daily basis helping in the process the behind the scenes manipulators to exit from the market with a profit of 120 billion BD Taka. All of these are hard earned savings of the middle income groups of Bangladesh who has fallen prey to the capitalist magic of changing fortune quickly i.e. stock market.

As the pressure on government has been growing during the period of February and March 2011, the government finally announced Mr. Ibrahim Khalid to head the investigation team. Even though the 300 page investigation report has been handed over to the government on 7th April 2011, the government is yet to publish this report publicly as numbers of senior ministers, members of parliament and business aides of this government including infamous tycoon Salman F Rahman, as well as politicians and business aides of the opposition have been directly indicated in the probe report. Moreover, on the day of handing over the report, Mr. Ibrahim Khalid has hinted that, "the criminal were so powerful that it is not possible to try them under ‘democracy'. So he suggested trying them by military courts!

Indeed Bangladesh, already known worldwide as the one of the poorest countries in the world has historical record of politicians looting public money while they were in power like all other democracies in the world be it UK or USA or India. During the previous government of Begum Zia, Tareq Rahman, the son of Begum Zia, has looted estimated $0.1 billion from the public and now Sheikh Hasina's son Shajib Wajed Joy and her aides have looted $1.7 billion! Indeed under this secular democratic capitalist economic model, the politicians loot public and stock market works as a perfect digital tool to help them out, by leaving the ummah in the dustbin. Therefore, the solution to employment is not stock market or this capitalist model of economy. Also the solution to bring those responsible for looting public money is neither democracy nor any other man-made systems. Indeed it is Islamic economic system under the shade of Khilafah "Caliphate", which is the only guarantee to the economic prosperity for the ummah. And the trial of the perpetrators, who plunder the ummah's fortunes, will also be ensured by the Khilafah "Caliphate".
