  TO: THE HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS AND THE CIVIL SOCIETY     RE: Brutal Torture of Hizb ut-Tahrir Members by the Government of Bangladesh

    Hizb ut-Tahrir draws the attention of all human rights organizations based in Bangladesh and internationally as well as the civil society in Bangladesh to the brutal torture of the party's members and activists by the government of Bangladesh (GOB); and calls upon the responsible executives and members of the human rights community and the civil society to take up the issue with the GOB, pressing upon them the urgency of refraining from all forms of torture.

BACKGROUND AND FACTS:

  1. On 22 October, 2009, the GOB made a sudden announcement that it had proscribed Hizb ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh citing as an excuse that the party was a ‘threat to public safety'. The decision was not made following any due process and the party's case had not been heard prior to it. In fact Hizb ut-Tahrir was not even officially notified of the decision by the GOB despite the fact the party had a public office from where it had been operating openly in the country since 2001, utilizing the recognized and widely accepted political means such as seminars, rallies and demonstrations. It is well known that Hizb ut-Tahrir has never resorted to nor ever condoned acts of violence.
  2. Immediately after the ban, the official spokesman of the party in Bangladesh, Professor Mohiuddin Ahmed was put under house arrest on 23 October, 2009, for trying to hold a press conference to give the party's reactions to the GOB decision. He was later arrested with false cases, on 20 April, 2010 and is still in prison. Along with him dozens of party members and activists, including deputy spokesman Kazi Murshedul Hoque and senior member Professor Dr Syed Golam Mawla, have been imprisoned by the GOB for no reason other than their ideological-political views. Clearly, all of them are prisoners of conscience.
  3. In continuing with its repressive policies against Hizb ut-Tahrir, on 22 December, 2010 and on 19 January, 2011, the GOB again arrested more than a dozen members and activists of the party. They were subsequently remanded in custody for various durations. During their remand period, the Task Force for Interrogation (TFI) ruthlessly tortured them in a manner which would disgust any human being, in order to force information out of them about the party's chain of command. The Bangladesh TFI is notorious for using torture; only recently the well known British newspaper, The Guardian, revealed the extent of the brutality which the TFI unleashes upon its victims. Being true to this reputation, the Bangladesh TFI subjected the members and activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir to inhumane torture using brutal means, some of which are:
    • They were blindfolded and severely beaten with batons;
    • They were subjected to electric shock, applied to their genitals, for up to the duration of 45 minutes;
    • They were stripped naked, tied and left hanging upside down; and
    • They were squashed between slabs of ice for lengthy periods.

Hizb ut-Tahrir urges all human rights and civil society organizations, as well as the sincere individuals from the human rights community and civil society to fulfill their duty of defending all prisoners of conscience by insisting that the GOB immediately ceases the torture of the members and activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir.

A mere week after the visit of the tyrant Islam Karimov to Brussels, his torture and repression of Muslims in Uzbekistan continues unabated. Karimov went to Brussels and meet with NATO Secretary-General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the European Commission President, José Manuel Barroso, and EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger. He was given a red-carpet welcome and promised more financial aid in appreciation of his efforts in fighting terrorism.

People donate blood to blood banks for free for reasons that are well known, Is it permissible for us to obtain such blood for blood banks free of cost and carry out tests on it and then safely dispose the remaining quantity of blood without causing any harm to any one or the environment? We then sell the other portions to different laboratories, and if we are unable to isolate viruses, we purchase such virsues from other laboratories. Is it permissible to buy and sell viruses for such purpose?

In the name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Most Compassionate O you who are uprising in Tahrir Square! O our people in Egypt! Beware from being fooled by America and its puppets making cosmetic changes to the regime!

    Voices, orchestrated by America, are starting to be heard. Those in the regime speak openly trying to deceive you by replacing some ‘ugly' faces with other ‘ugly' faces. They are trying to focus on Hosni Mubarak as the problem, rather than his forces by which he assaults people. They are trying to focus the dispute over a clause or two in the constitution, but not over the whole secular constitution itself.

Those voices try to promote the devolution of power to the Vice-President, Omar Suleiman, showing him favourably, overlooking the fact that he is the permanent messenger of the president to the Jewish entity, and it is his stamp by which treacherous treaties are concluded with the entity that usurps the blessed land of Isra and Miraj, the land of al-Aqsa Mosque, the first qiblah!

Those voices portray Omar Suleiman as the ‘saviour'; so they negotiate with him discussing a way out of the current situation. However, those who negotiate are not only the members of the parties loyal to the regime; hypocrites who say something to the demonstrators in the field and say something else to Omar Suleiman also negotiate!

O you who are uprising in Tahrir Square!

O our people in Egypt!

America, the mentor of the regime, was shocked by what she saw of your strength in resisting oppression and challenging aggression, and realized the matter is serious. America became worried about the valued regime that was under her service, protecting her interests and protecting the interests of the Jewish entity. This worry pushed Obama and his aides to engage in meetings and consultations, to call the regime's officials, and to send envoys there, as if Egypt were one of the states of America!

These meetings of the American politicians came out with plans to beautify the face of the Egyptian regime, after they were convinced that their valuable regime had collapsed or was about to collapse. They decided to replace the current face with another; and if America finds it necessary to remove the two faces and replace them with yet a new puppet, she will do.  She does all of this to continue keeping Egypt under the protection of new faces, which wear decorated masks that claim to satisfy the people.

O you who are uprising in Tahrir Square!

O our people in Egypt!

You are able, by the Will of Allah, to foil such plans through your awareness and perseverance, such that, neither America, nor the regime she made, will be able to stand before you, or those hypocrites.

You have broken the backbone of the regime and its cronies with your blessed uprising, and your steadfast stance, without your resolve being weakend or your challenge being softened.

You have exposed those groups and figures who have tried to have a foot in your field and another foot with Omar Suleiman; so revealing their hypocrisy and deceit.

Moreover, you threw terror in the hearts of the West, particularly America, when they saw you, in your thousands, saying Allahu Akbar in your congregational prayer during your uprising: feet-to-feet, and shoulder-to-shoulder. So keep this prayer before your eyes; and let it be your motivation for the change you proclaim.

O you who are uprising in Tahrir Square!

O our people in Egypt!

Change is not to replace one puppet with another. Nor it is by replacing a secular constitution with another, similar, secular constitution. Moreover, changing a regime is not done by negotiating with that regime!

Change is that which is reflected in that majestic scene you showed while performing your congregational prayer in the square.

Change is that which makes Egypt the capital of the Islamic Ummah through the establishment of the guided Khilafah "Caliphate"; the unitary state in the entire Muslim lands. Change is that which brings Egypt back to become the treasure of Allah on His earth.

The change is that which makes Egypt secure by the safety of Islam, for both Muslims and Copts, on equal terms.

Change is that which makes Egypt indomitable by the colonialists, especially America; so it becomes a fire that burns them, rather than a treasure that delights them!

O you who are uprising in Tahrir Square!

O our people in Egypt!

Hizb ut-Tahrir in Egypt is from you and works with you to produce this change by establishing the rule of Islam ordained by the Lord of the Worlds. It is the change in which lie your security and your safety. It is the change, with which your blood will not go in vain. And for such change let all of us work.

{إِنَّ فِي هَذَا لَبَلاغًا لِقَوْمٍ عَابِدِينَ}

[Indeed, in this there is a communication for people who serve (Allah)].
