2023 Khilafah Conference
Chicago, May 13th, 2023 – Hizb ut Tahrir / America successfully conducted its annual Khilafah Conference. This event is part of a global campaign commemorating the abolishment of the Khilafah (Caliphate) in 1924. It is a global call to Muslims worldwide to stand up and fulfill the obligation to resume the Islamic way of life, as decreed by Allah(swt), by reestablishing the Khilafah on the path of our Prophet (saw). This year’s conference—titled "Crises & Crossroads: The Urgency of Islam to Save the World"— centered around the themes of family, economy, and the political state of our society steeped in crisis and standing at crossroads. The conference provided critical insights into the present social issues challenging the Muslim family to the economic and political crises exposing America’s state of affairs.
The conference was met with overwhelming engagement and positive feedback from the hundreds of attendees and the thousands of online participants. This strong support showcases the Ummah's commitment to Islam and the Ummah’s desire to live and navigate by Islam in all the social, economic, and political challenges before us.
The conference began with reciting the Quran Al-Kareem, then followed by an engaging talk by Brother Zaki Tahir, providing an in-depth understanding of the challenges the Muslim community faces from the increasing pressure from the LGBTQ and feminist agenda. His speech offered practical strategies to help Muslim families protect their children, empowering them to resist the fahisha attempting to destroy the Muslim family. Allah (swt) says in the Quran,
[يَا أَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا۟ قُوا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا]
“O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire” [TMQ At-Tahrim:6]. He explained how adhering to the Quran and Sunnah will empower the community to uphold their Deen against this corruption.
Samer Abu Omar followed by addressing the economic crisis that grips America and the world today. Discussing the growing wealth gap, rising inflation, and the challenges to America's economic hegemony. He highlighted how Islam offers solutions that can withstand many economic disasters that constantly plague capitalism.
Sister Safia Rasheed, in her talk titled "Muslim Women Rise up Against the Feminist Agenda," highlighted the strength and dignity of Muslim women based on Islam. She encouraged them to stand firm against any force that undermines the honor of Muslim women. She exposed how capitalism exploits the female to benefit their financial interest over the interest of the family's well-being.
In his talk, "The Crumbling Empire: America's Political Crisis," Brother Diwan Abu Ibrahim shed light on how America struggles with extreme political polarization. He spoke on how America’s foreign policy missteps have added a financial burden to the national debt and enabled a rise of a multipolar world. The talk highlights how America stands at a crucial crossroads, facing declining hegemony and shifting towards a multipolar world.
The conference concluded with closing remarks by Haitham Ibn Thbait, who reiterated the need for the Muslim community to empower themselves with their belief in Allah (swt) during these challenging times. The conference will help empower the Muslim community with the knowledge of how to navigate today's crises.
