Third Anniversary of US Military Withdrawal from Afghanistan: If We Are Not Vigilant, the Americans Who Were Kicked Out of the Door Will Return Through the Window!

August 31 marks the third anniversary of the defeat and escape of the last American soldier from Afghanistan. The Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah Afghanistan congratulates this great achievement and historic day to all Muslims, especially to the activists, Dawah carriers, and Mujahideen of Afghanistan.

This is the third time that, following the defeats of Britain, the Soviet Union, and now the U.S., our land has been liberated from military occupation, presenting an opportunity to establish the Caliphate (Khilafah). However, on all three occasions, the same failed experiences have been repeated. Instead of establishing the Caliphate, which is a substantial obligation, the rulers turned towards nation-states and pragmatic policies. This is despite the fact that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has said: «لَا يُلْدَغُ الْمُؤْمِنُ مِنْ جُحْرٍ وَاحِدٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ»“A believer is not stung out of one or the same hole twice”.

Historical experiences in Afghanistan and other Islamic lands have shown that Muslims have always been able to courageously wage jihad against military occupation and emerge victorious in the battlefields. However, in the face of colonialism, whether willingly or unwillingly, they have failed to resist and have succumbed to it. Just as the U.S. military occupation was kicked out of the door, now the U.S. is attempting to return to Afghanistan through the window, seeking to once again ensnare this land in its colonial grip.

Colonialism manifests in various forms: political colonialism through entangling countries in one-sided treaties; economic colonialism through dependence on foreign aid and the influence of non-governmental and humanitarian organizations; and financial colonialism by tying currencies and banking systems to entities like the U.S. dollar and colonial financial systems. Among these, the intellectual and political colonialism is the most dangerous, relying on nation-states, policies based on national interests, pragmatism, economic-oriented notions, and recognition by the secular global order. Such approach diverts Muslims from thinking and making policies based on Islamic principles, thereby re-enslaving them under colonial influence. The U.S. and the West are working through regional countries by launching economic projects and using the international organizations, such as the United Nations and its entities like UNAMA, FAO, OCHA, WFP, the World Bank, ADB, and others, to embed their political, intellectual, and intelligence influence in Afghanistan.

Thus, the fundamental solution to achieving true independence lies in the complete and comprehensive implementation of Islam in domestic policies as well as in an all-encompassing confrontation with the enemy in all areas of foreign policy. Therefore, the bitter experiences of the past should serve as a lesson, and neither sides should be allowed to undermine the determination of Muslim rulers in fully and comprehensively implementing Islam. The unity of Muslims worldwide and the solidarity of Islamic groups play a very effective and decisive role in resisting colonialist influence — as without the unity of the Ummah and the establishment of the Caliphate, this great struggle will not achieve its intended results.

In reality, it is the Second Rightly-Guided Khilafah (Caliphate) that will liberate the Ummah from geographical prisons, dependence on the global order, and the influence of colonialism. The Caliphate, based on the Method of Prophethood, will guide the Ummah from the oppression and disbelief of capitalism towards Islamic justice, transforming the Ummah’s defensive struggles into offensive campaigns, knocking on the doors of colonial powers and forcing them to surrender to Islamic governance in their own lands.

This will be realized when those in power place their faith in the solutions, promises, and Nussrah (support) of Allah (swt), and strive with perseverance, reliance, and piety to establish the Caliphate, so that Allah (swt) may safeguard us from all schemes and colonial influence.

[وَإِن تَصْبِرُواْ وَتَتَّقُواْ لاَ يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ]

“Yet, if you are patient and mindful ˹of Allah˺, their schemes will not harm you in the least. Surely Allah is Fully Aware of what they do.” [Aali Imran: 120]
