Nuclear Cooperation with the US: A New Chain of Dependence

Bangladesh has signed a civil nuclear agreement with the United States. We welcome genuine scientific development. But let us be brutally clear: receiving technology is not possessing technology. Nuclear power is not about electricity alone. It is about knowledge, industry, and strategic strength.

America knows this. It demonstrated nuclear terror over Japan. It still dictates which nations may rise and which must remain chained. Its threats to annihilate Iran prove one thing — great powers never treat strategic technology as an ordinary commercial deal. So, Bangladesh must ask the only question that matters: will this agreement make us independent, or make us a client state?

And this question does not belong to Bangladesh alone. It belongs to the entire Muslim Ummah. The Ummah is not poor in talent. We have scientists, engineers, researchers, and capable minds across the world. What we lack is political will. What we lack is unity. What we lack is a State capable of turning our human resource into power. Islamic history shames our present weakness. The Ottomans built artillery that shattered the walls of Constantinople. Tipu Sultan’s rockets were so advanced that the British captured and studied them, later using the technology in developing their Congreve rockets. Muslims once mastered power. Today, we depend on others for it.

A nation that only buys technology remains dependent. A nation that masters technology determines its own future. The Muslim Ummah cannot remain permanently dependent on the military, scientific and technological systems of others. Dependence is not security; it is surrender. Our position is clear: the Ummah needs an independent political authority — the Khilafah Rashidah (Rightly-Guided Caliphate) — capable of mobilising its scientists, engineers, resources and industries toward a common strategic purpose. A state that builds its own capabilities instead of importing its security. A state that answers to no foreign patron. The objective is not to replace one master with another. The objective is independence. A Muslim world that produces its own technology, builds its own industries, develops its own strategic capabilities and cannot be dictated to by any great power. The Ummah does not lack people, resources or knowledge. What it lacks is the political authority to turn all of these into collective strength.

And that transformation will not come through agreements alone. It requires the political authority and vision to build genuine scientific, industrial and strategic independence — something that cannot be achieved without the re-establishment of the promised Khilafah Rashidah upon the methodology of the Prophethood.
