Awami League leader and former MP Dr Iqbal together with his thugs forced one activist of Hizb ut-Tahrir, Muhammad Newaz Ashequine, into his car and took him to the police station yesterday from Banani Masjid. Ashequine studies at the prestigious North South University and is the son of a civil servant (Deputy Secretary). He was distributing the leaflet issued by Hizb ut-Tahrir calling for the removal of Sheikh Hasina and her government and the re-establishment of the Khilafah "Caliphate". The title of the leaflet is: Remove Sheikh Hasina and her government, the agent of US-India, collaborator in the Pilkhana killings; and Re-establish the Khilafah "Caliphate". In the leaflet the party said the government of Sheikh Hasina collaborated with the Indian polytheist state in the killing of army officers at the BDR headquarters in February 2009 to weaken the BDR and the Army of Bangladesh.

Another activist of Hizb ut-Tahrir was surrounded by about 20 Awami League activists at a mosque in Muhammadpur where he was distributing the leaflet. At the time many musallis gathered and challenged them. However despite the Ummah's protests, they forcibly took him to the police. Awami League activists in Mirpur also beat and injured Hizb ut-Tahrir activists outside a mosque. The police and RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) also arrested seven Hizb ut-Tahrir activists from various mosques despite protests from the public. In Sylhet, outside the Shah Jalal mosque the people protested against RAB officers when they came to arrest two party activists. The Ummah asked them why they were harassing them; they are saying what is right and true.

The government's policy of proscription, arrests and using its party thugs against Hizb ut-Tahrir shows that they will do everything to suppress the voice of the Ummah. Sheikh Hasina and her government take swift steps against anyone who challenges its treachery and exposes its subservience to the imperialists. It should be mentioned here that the government arrested dozens of Hizb ut-Tahrir members and activists last year for exposing the government's role in the Pilkhana killings. Moreover they also sacked army officers who protested against the government's role in the killings. On the other hand the government does not show any reaction to the aggressive actions against the Muslims by the kafir-mushrik enemies. Two days ago the Indian BSF shot at BDR officers, wounded one of them and dragged him inside the territory of India. But Sheikh Hasina and her government have not even uttered one word to challenge the Indian government.
