Press Release
Cameron's Defence Advisor follows Bush-Blair attacks on Caliphate

London UK, 7th Dec 2009 - David Cameron's new defence advisor General Sir Richard Dannatt said in an article in the Telegraph on the 5th December that "For those who are brave enough to acknowledge it, the Islamists' long-term objective is clear, although deliberately understated: the restoration of the historic Islamic caliphate, running through South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and up through south and south-east Europe."

The comments by General Dannatt have come in the same week that Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling went to address to the neocon think tank The Heritage Foundation and follow Cameron's own comments in June 2009 to the Conservative Friends of Israel where he praised Israel's massacres in Gaza saying "Israel strives to protect innocent life" despite being described by a UN report as war crimes.

Regarding General Dannatt's comments, Taji Mustafa, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain said: "These comments echo the language of war mongers like Tony Blair, George W Bush and Donald Rumsfeld - all of who justified the war on terror by demonising the desire of Muslims to restore the Islamic Caliphate - something that enjoys overwhelming popular support in the Muslim world."

"These comments from David Cameron's high profile defence advisor, coupled with Cameron's neoconservative links together with his appeasement of Israeli aggression in Gaza reflects a very hawkish and anti-Islamic foreign policy stance and explains his obsession and repeated smear campaigns against Hizb ut-Tahrir."

"If Dannatt's comments are a reflection of the thinking in the Conservative party, it is yet further confirmation of their following the ideologues and architects of the ‘war on terror' in Washington, and an indication that David Cameron's Conservatives would be committing themselves to an almost perpetual war against the political aspirations of the Muslim world - to move towards a greater role for Islam in governance and a greater move to shed the shackles of colonialism, both of which are represented in the aspiration for the return of the Caliphate."
