Speak Out Against the Prime Minister's Demonization of Muslims!

When Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen addressed the Social Democratic Party’s annual conference in Aalborg on September 12, 2026, her message, directed at Muslim men, included the following: "You, the modern man who would never dream of hitting your children, who would never dream of forcing your daughter to wear a headscarf, or otherwise interfering in who she dates. You, who are Muslim, live in Denmark, and would never dream of sympathizing with terrorist organizations or Sharia law [...] How tired you must be of imams who have gradually become more reactionary here in Denmark than what is heard in many mosques in the Middle East. And how tired you must be of young people exercising the culture of dominance in Denmark that your own family fled from. Speak out!"

To this hate speech from the Prime Minister, there is only one thing to say: Anyone who has not fallen for the scaremongering image painted of Muslims must indeed speak out... against this portrayal of Muslim men as violent subhumans who beat their children and oppress their daughters. Rather than being seen as an independent choice based on personal conviction, a sign of devotion to the Creator, and a rejection of a deeply harmful societal culture that leaves over half of very young Danish women subjected to sexual coercion, the Islamic headscarf is portrayed as an expression of oppression and coercion. And should anyone be in doubt, last month’s debate on the Islamic values of Muslim high school students clearly demonstrated that it is the government—through witch hunts, sanctions, and coercion—that seeks to strip young Muslims of their self-chosen Islamic identity.

We must speak out against a head of government without shame or decency, who wholeheartedly and consistently supports a genocide and mass starvation of children in Gaza, and then points fingers at an entire demographic with accusations of terror sympathy and violence against children! Sharia, which is the term for the collection of Islamic rules of life that Muslims worldwide refer to and practice every single day, is mentioned in the same breath as terrorism. Muslims are expected to renounce Islam itself, it seems, and buy into the false, hateful narrative about their own faith before they are deemed "proper" in the Danish government’s book. Imams, who for years have been pressured and constrained by special legislation, surveillance, and witch hunts, must now endure further vilification and demonization simply because what they convey is Islam, rather than the "values" of the Social Democratic Party.

Therefore, a direct message to you is also in order. You, the decent Dane who has retained their humanity. You, who would never dream of sending weapon parts to "Israel" to mass murder and maim tens of thousands of children. You, who can clearly see that your Muslim neighbors, colleagues, classmates, friends, or perhaps even family members are neither your enemies nor your adversaries. You, who can see through manipulation and diversion when you spot it, and would never dream of sympathizing with occupation, genocide, demonization, racism, and witch hunts against those who think differently. How tired you must be of politicians who divide and spread hatred that has gradually become as intense and malicious as what was heard in the 1930s. And how tired you must be of this being done in your name, with your mandate, and under the pretext of protecting you from dangers that your own elected officials have constructed themselves. Speak out!
