 Press Release
Set Them Free, They Are Not Terrorists!

It is one year now since our three members of Hizb ut Tahrir / Tanzania: Ustadh Ramadhan Moshi (39), Waziri Suleiman (31) and Omar Salum Bumbo (49) were kidnapped and falsely accused with charges of ‘conspiracy to commit terrorism’ and ‘commit acts of terrorism’.

Throughout the year while in detention, apart from being away from their families, relatives, friends and halting their economic activities. They are also experiencing inhumane confinement with unhygienic surroundings devoid of proper social amenities in general. Furthermore, it is disheartening that their case continues to be mentioned every two weeks, without commencing on the pretext of an incomplete gathering of evidences for the whole year!

We in Hizb ut Tahrir / Tanzania strongly emphasize that our members are innocent without doubt, and that is why until now there is lack of confidence and willingness in commencing their trial hearing. We also insist that since Hizb ut Tahrir was founded in 1953 calling to Islam by adhering meticulously to the method of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) that requires restricting itself to the intellectual and political method without resorting to any force or violence.

We in Hizb ut Tahrir / Tanzania once again demand the law enforcement agencies in Tanzania to release and set our members free. We also appeal to human rights organizations, leaders in society, intellectuals, journalists and the public at large including members of the Muslim community to raise their voices in seeking the release of our brothers, and strongly oppose the biased law of The Prevention of Terrorism Act that was imposed by powerful states and is used to oppress, terrorize, torture and abduct etc people throughout the country.

We remind Tanzanian law enforcement agencies, that while Tanzania continues to unfairly detain hundreds of Muslims in realization of The Prevention of Terrorism Act, neighboring countries such as Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia continue to set free such suspects. Now is the time for Tanzania to take lesson from its neighbors.
