Bangladesh’s top court has scrapped most of the quotas on government jobs that had sparked violent clashes across the country that have killed more than 100 people. A third of public sector jobs had been reserved for the relatives of veterans from the country’s war for independence from Pakistan in 1971.

Bangladesh crawls back to normalcy after more than a week of violent clashes that killed nearly 200 people.  Most of the country remained without internet access, but thousands of cars were on the streets of the capital Dhaka after authorities relaxed a curfew for seven hours.

Olympic Freedom Fighters Only Seek to Fight Islam

On the 16th of July 2024, Amnesty International reported that the Olympic Federation banned the wearing of Hijab for Muslim female participants. The move prompted the following response on the official Amnesty International Website: “Why hijab bans in French sports defy Olympic values and human rights”. The argument stressed that “Excellence, respect, and friendship” were core values.
