The Antidote of Racism is Islam

In pursuit of the anti-racism protests began after George Floyd died as a result of police violence and spread throughout the country, the new footages emerged as a bomb in the country. The protests spread throughout the United States still on the ninth day, which began when George Floyd, a 46-year-old black American, was detained by police in Minneapolis last Monday on suspicion of fraud, died minutes after being knee-deep in his neck by a policeman. The George Floyd incident is not the first racist attack in the United States, as reported above, nor will it be the last as long as capitalism continues to rule. The cause of this discrimination disease which has become chronic for centuries in the United States, in other words, the humiliation-based policy carried out solely due to a black skin, is the capitalist system which is against the human nature. When it is absurd to expect the disease to be cured from the source itself, it is also absurd to expect from capitalism to solve its own problem, which favours the rich and despises the poor and leaves them to die easily.

The solution to all the other problems, especially racism, is in Islam, which is the only system that gives consent to the human nature, makes the heart content and the mind satisfied. So we call out to all those who want discrimination to come to an end and all those who suffer from racist attacks; the solution is in Islam, which sees no ethnic identity and status as a measure of superiority, but only piety.

When Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent, the humanity in general and Arabs in particular lived in a century which was far from sincerity and justice. With the upcoming of Islam, any tradition belonging to the “Arab Ignorance” which was also mentioned at the farewell sermon of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), was trampled on. Islam erased every fraction of Arab ignorance and the gloomy, cruel atmosphere was displaced with the enlightenment of Islam. With the fall of the Khilafah, which is the only liveable Islam, the Ummah has faced the “modern” version of Jahiliyyah. It is surely indispensable that the old ignorance is indifferent from the contemporary one. One of the mutual jahiliyyah customs of both old and contemporary is racism. The one that brought racism to and end was Islam, once again it is Islam that will end the modern racism.

History books are full with the enmity of Aws and Khazraj. Islam came and declared those two tribe’s followers as brothers. The long lasting battle between these two turned into brotherhood with respect to Islam’s wealth. When it was impossible to gather the Aws and Khazraj, Islamic creed established unity among the Ummah.

As the interpretation of the verse, no one had the power to unite them but Islam.

(لَوْ أَنفَقْتَ مَا فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعاً مَّا أَلَّفَتْ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَلَكِنَّ اللّهَ أَلَّفَ بَيْنَهُمْ)

“And brought together their hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allah brought them together.” [Al-Anfal: 63]

In yesterday's ignorance, racism was a measure of superiority. Just as white people today claim to be superior to black people in the United States, yesterday in the age of ignorance, people would brag about their ethnic identity and think that they were superior to others. The Islamic supremacy has neither longed for a nation nor any race. Islam has declared that the measure of superiority will only be Taqwa, and has clearly revealed that no one will be superior to anyone except by Taqwa. This truth is fixed by the following words of Allah Azza Wa Jalla: (إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ) “Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.” [Al-Hujurat: 13]
