The political turmoil in Bangladesh, marked by the recent coup, highlights a deeper and ongoing struggle between global powers—specifically the UK and the US—seeking to maintain their influence in this strategically important nation. The involvement of these Western nations in Bangladesh's political landscape is not new, tracing back to the country's colonial past and the Cold War era. Both the UK and the US have historically used their influence to ensure that their interests are prioritized, at the expense of the Bangladeshi people.
Sheikh Hasina's regime, long aligned with British interests, was ultimately destabilized through a combination of internal protests and external pressures, with the US subtly supporting opposition movements to shift the power dynamics in its favour. The appointment of Muhammad Yunus, a figure closely associated with American interests, as head of the interim government, signals the continuation of this geopolitical rivalry, leaving Bangladesh caught between two powers more focused on their strategic advantages than on the welfare of the Bangladeshi population.
This situation is a stark reminder of the failures of secular and capitalist systems imposed by Western powers. These systems have repeatedly shown that they are ill-equipped to bring about even a fraction of justice, stability, or well-being for the people of Bangladesh—or any other nation subjected to similar foreign interference. Instead, they perpetuate cycles of exploitation and oppression, further destabilizing already fragile regions.
The ongoing geopolitical struggle in Bangladesh underscores the urgent need for an alternative that goes beyond serving Western interests. For the Muslim Ummah, both in Bangladesh and globally, the solution lies in a return to the Islamic principles. Islam provides a comprehensive system that addresses not just the spiritual needs of individuals, but also the social, economic, and political dimensions of life, ensuring justice and stability for all.
The events in Bangladesh are a powerful reminder that secular regimes, regardless of their backers, will ultimately fail to provide lasting stability and justice. The continued dominance of capitalist and secular models, driven by Western interests, has led to widespread injustice and instability, not just in Bangladesh, but around the world. The real solution lies in the implementation of Islam as a holistic system, offering a path to true justice and well-being for all people.
As Muslims, it is our responsibility to recognize this reality and work towards the revival of Islam as the guiding principle for governance and society. This involves not just practicing Islamic principles in our personal lives, but also striving for a world where Islamic principles, values and rules underpin the structures of governance, economy, and society. The Ummah must unite to realize a common vision that prioritizes justice and welfare for all, and Bangladesh's current situation serves as a clear call to action.
The geopolitical conflict in Bangladesh is symptomatic of a broader malaise within the global system, where capitalist and secular interests are prioritized over justice and human dignity. It is incumbent upon us as Muslims to strive for a world where these unjust systems are replaced by a truly Islamic system capable of delivering real justice.
The path forward lies in the reestablishment of Islam as a comprehensive system of justice and well-being. This is not only the solution for Bangladesh but for the entire world. By standing together as a united Ummah, we can bring about the change that is so desperately needed. Now is the time for us to rise, unite, and work towards the revival of Islam by establishing the Khilafah (Caliphate) system as the true path to justice and welfare for all humanity.
