“What’s behind the mass expulsion of Afghans from Pakistan?”
Since September 2023, the Pakistan government has deported over 850,000 Afghan men, women and children from Pakistan. Hundreds of thousands of other Afghans, many of whom have lived in Pakistan for decades also currently face deportation from the country. The Pakistan government set March 31st as the deadline for all ‘illegal foreigners’ and Afghan card holders to leave voluntarily or face deportation.
