Is Sisi Egypt's New Musharraf?

  • Published in Politics
  •   |

Despite denials from Egypt's military, all eyes are on Field Marshal Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to run for the presidency.  In fact, the emphatic endorsement from the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) a few days earlier clearly demonstrates that Sisi is poised to assume the office of the presidency. Even Egypt's former tyrant Mubarak weighed in the anticipation and predicted that Sisi will become president-or in Mubarak's lexicon the new pharaoh.

If opinion polls allege that the public opinion there is a widespread public perception that Sisi will make things better for Egypt, except given the behaviour of the interim government thus far, there is very little evidence to suggest that Egypt will improve in any shape or form in the post-Mubarak era. The revolution has been crushed with an iron fist, and wherever one looks the old guard (Nasserites) have returned with vengeance.

If Egyptians are looking at how Sisi will perform in office then there is the Mubarak period to map comparisons against, but it is more appropriate to look at the Musharraf era.

Musharraf on the behest of America removed Pakistan's democratically elected Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif through a bloodless coup, and then spent a decade in office legitimising his rule via slogans such as  ‘real democracy'  and ‘genuine democracy' etc.

Sisi already shares some striking similarities. Both men share a strong passion for the promotion of Kufr secularist democracy in their respective countries and consider their anti-democratic methods-no matter how abhorrent they maybe-as the only way to bring democracy. In short they project themselves to be saviours of democracy and not power-hungry dictators. Then there is bloodless coup in which both men ousted democratically elected leaders.

However, there is a slight deviation in the way both Musharraf and Sisi have sought legitimacy for their rule. Musharraf took power by force and later held a referendum to justify the continuation of his rule. Although Sisi took power by force he sought the establishment of an interim government as a means of paving the way for him to take power legitimately via presidential elections. There is also another difference. Unlike Musharraf's post-coup period, Sisi's post-coup was accompanied with violence which continues to roil Egypt to this today.

This is where the comparison ends, as Sisi has not officially assumed office. But one can extrapolate based on Musharraf's time in office, what Sisi may do. Sisi like Musharraf is a diehard secular fanatic who is determined to muzzle Islam and to destroy the emergence of political Islam. Musharraf used the cover of enlightened moderation to spearhead a vicious campaign to eradicate Islam from Pakistani society. All indications are that Sisi will not only traverse the same path as Musharraf, but will be more venomous in his fight against Islam.

Musharraf joined America's global war on terrorism and used the Pakistani armed forces to seek and destroy militants operating in Pakistan's tribal areas. Eleven years on, the Pakistani army is bogged down in the tribal areas and is deeply unpopular. Egypt's equivalent to Pakistan's tribal area is the Sinai Peninsula; one can easily foresee the Egyptian army repeating the same mistakes under Sisi's coming reign.

Musharraf also abandoned the Kashmiri people in the favour of normalising ties with India. Perhaps Sisi will abandon likewise with the Palestinians in favour of closer ties with the Jewish state. The restriction of the tunnels supplying Gaza with goods under the directions of General Sisi is just an appetiser of what is to come.

Lastly, the manner in which Musharraf was discarded by America is probably the most certain manner in which Sisi's rule will come to an end. And just like Musharraf's current predicament, Sisi will be hounded and tried by the Egyptian people for nepotism and treachery; that's if America decides to be lenient with him.

Alhamdullilah, the Picket took place "Russia's Crimes... From Tatarstan, Through Chechnya, Over to Syria" (Translated)

Amid heavy security presence, the Picket organized by Hizb ut Tahrir on Monday10/2/2014 CE was concluded by the praise of Allah:

"Russia's Crimes... From Tatarstan, Through Chechnya, Over to Syria"

In front of the Russian consulate in Amman as part of the global campaign "Supporting the Muslims in Tatarstan" launched by Hizb ut Tahrir to uncover the spiteful crime of Russia against Islam and the Muslims; and to expose the collaboration of the international community in the persecution and torture of Muslims; and to direct the global media to carry out its duty in exposing the crimes of the Russian state and its counterparts; and to show the need of the Islamic Ummah for its political entity which will defend it and its sons everywhere; and to move the people of power and influence in the Islamic Ummah to support this Great Deen and work to achieve its project, the Khilafah "Caliphate" state.

The leaflet issued by Hizb ut Tahrir in Russia was read out in front of the Russian consulate by a member of the Hizb in the Russian language. Another speech was delivered by a member of Hizb ut Tahrir in Jordan which condemned the hateful Russian crimes.

The loud chants of "Allahu Akbar" echoed throughout the area.

The participants chanted various slogans of condemnation:

Russia, the atheist enemy, fought the Ummah of Muhammad

Russia, the open enemy, committed the most heinous massacres

It fought us in Tatarstan, in Chechnya, and the Balkans

It fought us in Ash-Sham

O Russia - the dawn of Khilafah "Caliphate" is coming.

Press Release Director of Public Relations at the Russian Embassy in Amman, did not Conceal his Fear upon Hearing the Name of Hizb ut Tahrir and the Embassy Refused to Receive the Leaflet!! (Translated)

A delegation from Hizb ut Tahrir, headed by Mr. Ahmad Abu Qadoom went to the Russian Embassy in Amman to deliver to the Ambassador a leaflet entitled "Security Agencies in Tatarstan Severely Oppress Muslims."

Upon the arrival of the delegation to the Embassy, it requested permission to enter. The Director of Public Relations at the Embassy stepped out inquiring about the organization represented by the delegation. The head of the delegation replied and said, "We are a delegation from Hizb ut Tahrir". Once the Director of Public Relations at the Embassy, heard that, he rose up frightened, rebounding back in a non-diplomatic movement that drew the attention of the security agents and the gendarmerie present; an unjustified reaction that cannot be explained except that it evoked in his mind the greatness of the Khilafah "Caliphate" State and that the time has approached to be held accountable. Once he calmed down and contained himself he said: "What do you want?" The head of the delegation replied that we carry with us a leaflet issued by Hizb ut Tahrir in Russia and want to hand it over to the ambassador. He then returned inside the Embassy and thereafter sent to inform the delegation that the Embassy rejects their admittance and refuses to receive the leaflet.

News & Comment Maliki's Regime Steps into Saddam's Shoes as the Terroriser of Iraqi Women

  • Published in News & Comment

News

On the 6th of February, the BBC, Al-Jazeera and other media reported on a new report by Human Rights Watch (HRW), entitled, "‘No One is Safe' - The Abuse of Women in Iraq's Criminal Justice System". It stated that Iraqi security forces are illegally detaining thousands of women and subjecting them to torture, abuse and threats of sexual assault. Many are held for months or even years without charge because of alleged acts of terrorism committed by their husband or other male relatives. The report documented that the abuse included being, "beaten, kicked, slapped, hung upside-down and beaten on their feet, given electric shocks, and raped or threatened with sexual assault by security forces during their interrogation." Some of the women described being violated in front of their husbands, brothers and children. The study also found that most of the female detainees had no access to a lawyer and that they were being coerced into signing false confessions. One detainee stated that after 9 days of beatings, shocks, and being hung upside down had left her permanently disabled. She said that officers forced a confession of terrorism from her by threatening to rape her teenage daughter. Seven months after speaking to HRW she was executed despite dismissal of charges against her by lower court rulings. Furthermore, those security officers implicated in this torture have not been brought to justice and hence have been given permit to abuse with impunity.

Comment

The brutal legacy of Saddam and the US occupiers who followed him continues unabated under Iraq's Western-installed secular regime. Such horrific abuse carries echoes of the torture and violation that innocent Muslim women were subjected to by US prison officers in Abu Ghraib which still haunts our minds. In the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, then US President, George W. Bush justified the war upon the basis of liberating the Iraqi people from oppression, including their women. One year after the invasion, he told a gathering at the White House, "Every woman in Iraq is better off because the rape rooms and torture chambers of Saddam are forever closed." It is clear however, that the lasting legacy of Western colonial occupation and any form of interference in Muslim lands has only even been to generate further oppression and humiliation for the daughters of this Ummah, as evident by the ongoing human tragedy being suffered by the women of Afghanistan. Furthermore, Saddam's rape and torture chambers have clearly been re-opened under the new management of the US puppet government in Baghdad. This holds relevant lessons with regards to the current UN and Western-led negotiations over the future of Syria aimed at weaselling in the next Western-backed regime in the country to replace its last Western-installed rulers - the Assads. It is unquestionable that the establishment of any Western-backed, Western-installed regime or secular system in Syria is bound to herald a new phase of oppression for its people, as the women of Iraq and Afghanistan have experienced first-hand.

Alongside the horrific ordeal being suffered by thousands of female Iraqi prisoners, the women of the country continue to live in an environment of lawlessness and insecurity. More than 1000 people have died this January due to the ongoing political violence according to government data. The continuing epidemic of abductions, sexual violence, and trafficking of women in the country has caused Iraq's women and girls to feel too scared to leave their homes. In addition, there are thousands of war-widows, many of whom are working in humiliating conditions or begging on street corners. Desperate poverty has forced thousands of other women to even sell their bodies, simply to afford bread to feed their children. This is the true face of the so-called liberation brought to the Muslim world by Western colonial policies and wars, and installed governments and systems. It is impossible to envisage any form of positive future for women under this current Iraqi regime or any man-made system.

The women of Iraq, Afghanistan, and all our Muslim lands are in dire and urgent need of the establishment of the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" state to protect their lives and dignity as well as to ensure for them financial security. It was from Baghdad under the Khilafah "Caliphate" that Khalifah al-Mutassim sent an army 90,000 strong to the Roman Fort of Amurriyah in Al-Sham to rescue and protect a single Muslim woman who had been captured and humiliated by a Roman soldier, for this is the great status of honour that Islamic rule affords the woman. Al-Mutassim freed the woman with his own hands and apologized that she had to wait for him, saying, "Dear sister, I could not come earlier, for the way from Baghdad to you is a quite far one." It was from Baghdad under the Khilafah "Caliphate" that the Khalifah sent the great Muslim general Salahuddin Ayubi to liberate Palestine from the Christian Crusaders. It was Baghdad under the Khilafah "Caliphate" that was known as Madinat al-Salam (the City of Peace) for it was blessed with security under the rule of Islam. And it was Baghdad under the Khilafah "Caliphate" that the people enjoyed a high standard of living due to the Islamic economic system. It was narrated that when the Abassid Khalifah Harun Al-Rasheed died, his treasury department had around 630 million worth of gold dinars in surplus cash. Truly, the dignified life that every woman in Iraq and across the Muslim world deserves will only be realized through the return of the system of Allah (swt), the Khilafah "Caliphate".

Press Release America Continues to Brazenly Lead the Plot Against Islam and Muslims in Syria, and the Members of the National Coalition Walk Behind America like the Deaf and Blind Heedless (Translated)

In a position of support for the criminal Syrian regime, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said in an special interview with CNN, Wednesday evening 5/2/2014 CE: "I would describe the situation simply that Assad is not winning, but he's also not losing," and he added: "It's fair to say that Assad has improved his position a little bit." And in the same context of support for the criminal Syrian regime, about a week ago the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqji announced that Iran received the first payment of 550 million dollars of frozen assets for Tehran in the frame of the nuclear deal that was reached in Geneva; so this million dollar release is only to help the Iranian regime to overcome its economic problems from its support of the Syrian regime, and to continue supporting the butcher of Syria.

The policy in Syria is indeed formed by America as Kerry said in the same statement, "very challenging and very difficult," for America revolves its policy in Syria like the mule around the molar, it does not know the most effective way for it and its interests, which were trampled by the revolution of ash-Sham. And this is because the callers to the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" in ash-Sham are the difficult equation that neither America nor its intruders nor its creation, the Coalition opposition, were able to penetrate or wrap up in Geneva, and what is taking place of explosive barrels is only an accomplishment of the Geneva 2 Conference.

Oh Muslims in Syria: Here America proves to the "demented" in the Coalition, Military Council and the scattered opposition here and there who believed its promises, those who agreed to sit with the criminal of the age in Geneva 2, and those who trusted the promises of Uncle Sam, the maintainer of the crusader campaign in Afghanistan and Iraq, that it did not for a moment forsake the butcher Bashar, indeed it was and still stands behind him in killing and butchering us and destroying our country... and here is Iran, what remains of the farce that falsely named itself from "the axis of resistance", recently its Foreign Minister Muhammad Jawad Zarif announced in a serious public retreat, a shameful position to get closer to America and its foundling "Israel" saying that the Nazi Holocaust of the Jews was "a brutal disastrous tragedy that should never be repeated." So we ask: So what about what is happening in Syria of a real holocaust that is unmatched in modern history? The latest of which is throwing explosive barrels on the heads of the people and that have killed thousands of civilians of children and women?! Is this not a Holocaust of Iran's making, or as Kerry considers it an improvement in Assad's situation, America's intimate agent?!...

Oh Sincere Patient Muslims in Syria of ash-Sham, the Abode of Islam: The international plot against you would not have taken this cruel bloody route if not for ruling by Islam with what Allah (swt) revealed, the Islam of the Khilafah "Caliphate", is proposed to your land and sky. It is necessary to depart from this catastrophe, which none except Allah (swt) can disclose, by unifying the military efforts on one vision and on the ground in one row, as Allah (swt) loves, to give the Nusrah to those working for the establishment of the Khilafah "Caliphate". And this project is complete with all the elements of its success that Syria needs. So Hizb ut Tahrir in Syria calls you to the establishment of the Righteous Khilafah "Caliphate" for it alone is the protector from all this Fitna, thus extend your hand and make the pact with Allah to do what is good, and take good tidings from Allah (swt). The Almighty said,

"And let not those who disbelieve ever think that [because] We extend their time [of enjoyment] it is better for them. We only extend it for them so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment. Allah would not leave the believers in that [state] you are in [presently] until He separates the evil from the good. Nor would Allah reveal to you the unseen. But [instead], Allah chooses of His messengers whom He wills, so believe in Allah and His messengers. And if you believe and fear Him, then for you is a great reward." [Ali-Imran: 178-179]

The Intoxication of Our Youth in Turkey and Across the Muslim World Is The Result of the Implemented Western Secular Capitalist System

  • Published in Politics
  •   |

On the 30th of January 2014, the Security General Directorate published the "2013 Turkey Drug Report", prepared by the Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiciton (TUBIM) with data obtained from a total of 30 different institutions and organizations. From research and reports from citizens, it is a well-known fact, that the age of drug abuse is decreasing and the spread of its use increasing day by day.

In 2012 in Turkey, almost 4 thousand children applied for treatment to 'treatment centers for substance abuse'; and close to 10 percent of the applicants were children between the ages of 12-14. According to official surveys, 20% use alcohol and an unofficial but actual data of 10% of young people use drugs. The youngest encountered age during the research was 11. It was found that pupils started with these bad habits at an average age of 13 and at school and due to their neighborhood environment.

According to the report, a total of 325 people died due to drugs. 1.2% of the deaths occurred under the age of 15, and 8% were specified between the ages 15-19. The significant increase in the number of drug deaths over the age of 65 in Turkey in recent years is another side of the sad reality.

In this 180-page report, the drug problem in Turkey emerges as a day by day growing health problem, causing medical, legal, social and security problems just like in other Western countries. Such reports have been published again and again for years. At the same time they are shared with The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction and with all relevant national agencies and organizations, but do not contribute to inhibiting the growth of the problem. Furthermore, this report affirms that the state's struggle against drugs consists only of police measures.

Yet it is specified in the report, that a total of 83 thousand drug-related operations were performed and that more than 130 thousand people were detained across Turkey. There was a 23.9% increase in the number of operations and a 23.8% increase in the number of detained persons compared to the previous year. In 2013, more than 13 tons of heroin and more than 152 tons of marijuana, 225 kilos of cocaine, about 184 thousand tablets Captagon, and 223 thousand ecstasy tablets were seized in police operations. However, despite all this, such police measures have clearly not prevented the growth of drug addiction amongst the youth. Furthermore, due to the high cost of such substances, 46% of our young people falling into the trap of addiction used cheap chemicals like "bally" and thinner, and today's last poison fashion "Bonzai". The common information given by addicts was that they could easily reach any of these intoxicants within 24 hours.

Another reflection of the state's failure in this issue is that inspite of the day by day decreasing age of drug users, only 4 of the 21 treatment centres with a total capacity of 544 beds accept paediatric patients. Whereas last year, the number of applicants to these centres was over 5 thousand. The number of applications for outpatient treatment was almost 156 thousand. Alongside the insufficient number of treatment centres, their placement at only certain areas constitutes additional impediments for the accessibility and continuation of treatments. Additionally, the required re-treatment of nearly 47% of the 2 thousand inpatients already affected by drug abuse highlights that such medical measures, although helping some to recover from their addiction, are not the means to solving this problem.

Together with this report, proposals have also been made to determine the starting point in the fight against drugs. For example, a strategy to address the educational levels of addicts was suggested as it was found that 2.6% of the drug users had no education at all, 2.4% were primary school graduates, 3.2% secondary school graduates, 2.6% high school graduates and 3.1% university graduates. However, these figures show that the level of drug use rises together with the level of education. All this is further proof that the escalating drug problem in Turkey and all over the world arises directly from the values promoted to people by the system that is implemented within a state.

In short, the ever increasing level of a malady like drugs in a Muslim society does not only reflect the failure of the system implemented by the state to deal with the issue, rather the system is also the trigger for the problem. The Western capitalist system instils values that promote that the purpose of life is nothing more than the pursuit of happiness, having a good time and enjoying the maximum of pleasures. This is especially propagated through its media and television, its entertainment and night-life culture. Such materialistic values have created an anesthetized society that is unwilling to face the reality or unwilling to face sorrows or the challenges of life, only chasing for happiness it cannot even define, failing to understand the aim of life. And thus the very same capitalist system implemented in Turkey and across our Muslim lands which governments over generations have embraced in imitation of the West, have caused the youth of the Ummah to suffer the very same problems of youth in the West.

In secular and capitalist systems, the production and sale of other addictive substances such as alcohol is permitted and encouraged under liberal freedoms. As this product creates one of the largest tax resource of capitalist states, it is not a prohibited substance, regardless of the indisputable damage it causes to individuals and societies overall. Furthermore, Turkey's greatest basketball team has the name of and is owned by Turkey's largest alcohol producer. Tabloid newspapers and television programs glamourize the night-life, drunkenness and debauched behaviour of the most famous people in an entertaining and admirable way. Infact in August 2013, Istanbul's narcotic branch office detained 48 people of whom 26 were actors and singers during operations for drug use and dealing. However, instead of condemning and removing them from the eyes of the society for their deeds, they were presented as victims and still continue to be praised on television, in series, movies and concerts.

In many liberal capitalist societies, the use of all kinds of drugs is being left to the preferences of individuals. Those who suffer health problems due to the consumption of such intoxicants are considered as those "who do not know how to use them" or as "ill", and are only provided with medical treatment opportunities. Furthermore, many Western countries even produce programs to ensure the safe use of drugs for the sake of generating revenue, rather than banning them and other addictive products. For example, cannabis in the Netherlands is sold freely in 'Coffee Shops' under the supervision of the state. This January, the US state of Colorado licensed the selling of marijuana in shops for recreational purposes. Registered heroin users are often provided safe syringes and environments to pursue their addiction. The focus of such capitalist states is 'Harm Reduction Programs' through controlling the quality and distribution of drugs, rather than full prevention of drug-taking. This has neither reduced the use of drugs nor the occurrence of crimes due to drug usage. According to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), more than 15 million Europeans have been determined as drug users in Europe. 11 states in the USA have decriminalized cannabis and introduced civil fines, drug education, or drug treatment in place of incarceration. In spite of this there has been a 45% increase in heroine-overdose deaths affecting all classes and backgrounds of families within the US society from 2006 to 2010 and the amount of heroine seized each year on the Mexican border has risen nearly four times from 2008 to 2012 (according to Joseph Moses, Spokesman for US Drug Enforcement Administration). At the moment in Turkey, Universities and NGOs are calling for the implementation of the so called ‘solutions' and model of the Netherlands and the USA in dealing with drugs.

However, with regards to Islam's view on this problem of drug-abuse, Allah (swt) sent His Messenger Muhammed (saw) with values and laws that protect mankind from such destructive behaviour and lifestyles. He (swt) says:

"O you who believe! Intoxicants, and gambling, and Al-Ansab, and Al-Azlam are an abomination of Shaitan's handiwork. Leave it aside in order that ye may succeed. Satan seeketh only to cast among you enmity and hatred by means of intoxicants and gambling, and to turn you from remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat. So will you not then abstain?" [Al-Maidah: 90-91]

Rasulillah (saw) says: «كل مسكر خمر، وكل مسكر حرام» "Every intoxicant is khamr (wine) and every intoxicant is haraam (unlawful)." When alcohol became prohibited in Madina al-Munawwara, it was narrated by the Sahaba that, "the streets almost became impassable from the wine that was spilled (i.e. thrown out)". This was the consequence of the shaping of the thoughts and inclination of the Muslims upon the Islamic beliefs and laws alone, such that they based their actions completely and immediately upon the Commands of their Creator, even though many would drink heavily before the revelation of this Order from Allah (swt). Thus, one of the main tasks of an Islamic system is to mould the thinking and inclinations of the youth upon Islam alone, and therefore to bring up personalities, just like the Companions and the Muslims of the past, who showed utmost attention and accuracy in abstaining from all kinds of evil!

Additionally Allah (swt) announced the goal of life to be based upon worshipping Him and seeking His Pleasure, warning that every soul will be held responsible for his or her deeds:

((الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا))

"Who created death and life that He might try you which of you is best in deeds." [al-Mulk: 2]

Therefore, under the Islamic system of the Khilafah "Caliphate", any kind of haram for the sake of profit or advantage, such as the selling of alcohol or drugs, be it for the state or the individuals, is impermissible. Something which is declared to be prohibited may not be shown to have a good advantage, nor is it left to the preferences of individuals, nor is its production or transportation or sale or use permitted. At the same time, anything which Allah (swt) and His Messenger (saw) have declared to be good and lawful will be taught as good and lawful through the means of schools and media and any educational tools; while anything haraam will be taught as haraam and detestable.

Alongside this, the Islamic concept of happiness is different from the concept of happiness in capitalism. While capitalism defines happiness through the satisfaction of organic needs and instincts to the maximum extent; Islam has organised those in a way that ensures the satisfaction of them all by a precise system which offers man delight and comfort while also protecting the individual, the community, and society from the harms that can result from allowing the free pursuit and satisfaction of these instincts and needs. Happiness in Islam is not defined as the fulfilment of personal desires but rather as attaining the Pleasure of Allah (swt) which is the ultimate bliss that will also secure unimaginable joys and pleasures in Jannah. Thus it becomes once again obvious that under the Islamic system, it is the state's duty to raise Islamic personalities who see themselves as servants to nobody else than Allah (swt) and to protect those personalities from anything that is declared as rotten by Allah (swt), including any form of intoxicant!

In addition, Islam's view of society is completely different from the individualistic view of capitalism. According to Islam, society is an indivisible whole, and it views the individual as an inseparable part of the community. This means the individual is viewed like a organ of the body. Thus, protecting the individual is the means to protecting the community, and protecting the community is the means to protecting the individual. Consequently, individuals are not allowed to simply pursue any lifestyle they desire regardless of the impact upon themselves or those around them. Indeed, Rasulillah (saw) said:

"The example of those who maintain Allah's limits (hudood) and those who surpass them is like the example of those who share a boat. Some would occupy its upper deck and some its lower deck. The occupants of the lower deck would have to go to the upper deck to have access to the water. If they said, why don't we drill a hole in our part (to directly access the water) and do not cause any inconvenience to those above us. If those on the upper deck let them do what they wanted then all of the passengers would sink. However, if they prevented them from doing so then all would be saved." ]Bukhari, K. Sharikat, 2313[

It is the full implementation of the Qur'an and Sunnah within the Khilafah "Caliphate" state that will protect our children from all forms of vice and harmful behaviour and influences. It is yet another vital reason why the Islamic obligation to establish this state upon our lands is one that should be viewed as an urgent matter - one that as Muslims we should rush to fulfil.

"Then is it the judgement of [the time of] ignorance they desire? But who is better than Allah in judgement for a people who are certain [in faith]." [Al-Maida: 50]
