Muslim parents to be prosecuted over gay education classes

Last week the English newspaper The Times revealed that parents who took their children out of school to prevent them being taught about lesbian, gay and transgender relationships were facing prosecution. Around 30 pupils from an east London primary school were absent from a week of special lessons to highlight homosexual relationships. The protesting parents said the content was more appropriate for secondary school pupils. Some of the parents said they informed the Leytonstone School they were removing their children for the week. Pervez Latif, whose children Saleh, ten, and Abdur-Rahim, nine, attend the school, said both Christian and Muslim parents objected to the theme linked to Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender History Month. Mr Latif is quoted as saying: "I didn't want my children to be learning about this." The school has said that action had been taken against the protesting parents but refused divulge details.

UN racism draft permits criticism of Islam and protects Israel

Muslim-backed references to Israel and the "defamation of religion" has been dropped from a draft declaration being prepared for next month's world racism meeting, United Nations officials said this week. The United States and the 27-nation European Union have threatened to boycott the April 20-25 meeting in Geneva, unless Muslim countries back down from demands to limit free speech that criticizes Islam or other faiths. They also objected to passages that singled out Israel for its treatment of Palestinians. The draft declaration now speaks only of concern about the "negative stereotyping of religions" while omitting direct references to Israel. "We believe this shortened text represents a solid and meaningful basis for negotiations by member states toward a positive outcome for the conference," said Doune Porter, a spokeswoman for the U.N. human rights office in Geneva.

G20: Germany and France repudiate Britain's plan to revive the world economy

Britain's hope of uniting the world's most powerful economies behind a massive new package of tax cuts and public spending increases suffered a serious blow this week, when France and Germany Gordon Brown's plan to revive the world economy. After talks at Chequers to prepare the way for next month's G20 summit in London, Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, ruled out ordering another "fiscal stimulus" in the short term, and made it clear that if more action were to prove necessary in Germany it would be for Berlin to decide, not the G20. Her comments were echoed by the French finance minister, Christine Lagarde, who was attending a meeting of G20 finance ministers in Horsham, West Sussex. As ministers tried to agree a way forward, Lagarde said she was optimistic the meeting could make progress, but added that nations needed to "evaluate the remedies already put in place by each of us" before ordering huge extra spending on top of that already sanctioned. The remarks effectively killed off proposals being pushed by Brown - who will chair the G20 summit on 3 April - and to some extent US president Barack Obama, whose administration believes that more co-ordinated fiscal action by the world's biggest economies is essential to revive global demand.

Russia to rearm itself and counter NATO expansion

On March 17 President Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia planned to boost its conventionally armed and nuclear forces to counter a growing threat from Nato, raising the spectre of a military confrontation between Moscow and the west. In a hawkish speech to Russia's top generals, Medvedev said Russia intended to upgrade its army and navy from 2011. Russia would also overhaul its strategic nuclear forces in an effort to guarantee the country's "security", he said. The modernisation was necessary because of the danger posed by the west's transatlantic military alliance, he said. "Attempts to expand the military infrastructure of Nato near the borders of our country are continuing." The Obama administration has said it wants to "reset" its troubled relations with Moscow - but has so far received mixed signals from the Kremlin.

Dutch MPs warn that Nigeria is on the cusp of an Islamic revolution which will spread across Africa

Oil-rich Nigeria, population 140-million, now is very close to an all-out ‘Islamic takeover', warn two Dutch MPs. This would have a massive impact on the future of all of Africa and of the West, warn Dutch parliamentarians Geert Wilders and Martin Bosma of the Party for Freedom, writing in an editorial in the Dutch religious daily, the Reformatorisch Dagblad. They describe this transformation of Nigeria as the launch pad for Jihad in Africa. They state: "Jihad, the holy war, is the duty which has to be carried out by every Muslim - and those Muslims who reject Jihad are no longer viewed as Muslims, but as heretics, and thus become marked for a Fatwa, a death sentence." The MPs further state:"When Nigeria falls to Islamic jihadists, this will have a powerful symbolic impact but also means that yet another oil-producing country will end up in the hands of Islam. In turn, those oil-dollars will be used to finance the worldwide Jihad. (And) an Islamic Nigeria also will become the starting point for the further islamisation of all of Africa. Once Nigeria has fallen to Islam, it will become even more difficult to remain positive about Africa's future."

US considers expanding the war into Pakistan

President Barack Obama and his national security advisers are considering expanding the covert US war in Pakistan far beyond the tribal areas near the border with Afghanistan, the New York Times reported on Tuesday. It stated that two high-level reports about Pakistan and Afghanistan advocate the broadening of the target area to include Taleban sanctuaries in and around the city of Quetta. Missile strikes by Central Intelligence Agency-operated drones have until now been limited to the tribal areas, and never been extended into Baluchistan, a sprawling province under the authority of Pakistan's central government, and which is next to parts of Afghanistan where recent fighting has been fiercest, the newspaper website said.

Gandhi's grandson: Cut the head of Muslims

Varun Gandhi the grandson of the former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi, defended himself a day after India's Election Commission ordered for him to face ‘criminal charges' for reportedly telling a rally that his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would ‘cut the head of Muslims.' Footage aired by the NDTV news channel this week showed Varun saying Muslims ‘have scary names' and that ‘if you meet them at night you will be scared.'

The Neros of Pakistan are playing the fiddle while Pakistan burns in American war

Hizb ut-Tahrir vehemently and categorically condemns the recent drone attack in Bannu and the news about future plans of American to conduct more drone attacks in Baluchistan. Capitalism destroyed 45% of the world's wealth in 1.5 years

On March 10 2009 the CEO of the private equity company Blackstone Group LP (BX.N) Stephen Schwarzman said that up to 45 percent of the world's wealth has been destroyed by the global credit crisis. "Between 40 and 45 percent of the world's wealth has been destroyed in little less than a year and a half," Schwarzman told an audience at the Japan Society. "This is absolutely unprecedented in our lifetime." But instead of putting the blame on the fundamentals of the capitalist system for the destruction of wealth, Schwarzman blamed credit rating agencies for the current crisis. What's pretty clear is that, if you were looking for one culprit out of the many, many, many culprits, you have to point your finger at the rating agencies," he said.

Britain to check for extremism in Muslim schools

Britain's education watchdog, Ofsted is to check that schools are promoting tolerance for other cultures, in a survey of independent faith schools in England. Last month, a think tank claimed some Muslim schools were allowing pupils to be influenced by extremist values. UK's Schools Secretary Mr Ed Balls has asked Ofsted to carry out a survey in a small number of independent faith schools to investigate how they support the "spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils". "Some concerns have been raised recently about practice in a small minority of independent faith schools and whether they are effectively preparing pupils for life in wider British society," said Mr Balls. The survey will consider the "ethos and values" of the schools and the influences on pupils through the curriculum, activities outside lessons and links with other organisations.

Vatican promotes Islamic economics as a cure to the Western Capitalist System

The Vatican's official newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, recently published an article titled "Islamic finance proposals and ideas for the West in crisis," prepared by Italian economists Loretta Napoleoni and Claudia Segre, in which it was suggested that the basic rules of Islamic finance could relieve suffering markets and particularly international financial systems. Noting that Islam prohibits "riba," and argued that "sukuk bonds," securities that comply with Islamic law, may be an alternative to interest. The article stressed that sukuk bonds are always real investments and never speculative. The article said that in this atmosphere of crisis banks should take Muslims as an example and that the Islamic finance system may pave the way for the establishment of new rules in the Western world. The Vatican has suggested that the current capitalist system has failed. Pope Benedict XVI recently harshly criticized the capitalist system and the greediness of bank owners in the West.

Iran's collusion with the US to stabilize Afghanistan revealed

This week Senator Jim Webb, a Virginia Democrat who also served as Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan, revealed at a special hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee that NATO cargo shipment passed through Iran en-route to Afghanistan. Most likely the shipments pass through the Iranian port of Chabahar, on the Arabian Sea, via a new road recently completed by India in western Afghanistan. However, despite official Iranian denials there are increasing signs that the US not only wants to normalize its relationship with Iran, but also wants to increase Iranian involvement in Afghanistan. In an interview in February with The Associated Press, General Craddock said NATO would not oppose individual member nations' making deals with Iran to supply their forces in Afghanistan. "Those would be national decisions," he said. "NATO should act in a manner that is consistent with their national interest and with their ability to resupply their forces. I think it is purely up to them." And just last week, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton week proposed a conference on Afghanistan that would include Iran.

FATA is the Central Nervous system for future attacks

This week during a hearing on current and future worldwide threats to the national security of the United States, Senator Evan Bayh, and an Indiana Democrat said," The central nervous system for the planning (of an attack on the US soil) would emanate from Fata." In response, director of US National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair said, "Yes Sir." During the meeting Lt. Gen. Michael Maples, director, US Defence Intelligence Agency, noted that while ‘strategic rivalry' with India drove Pakistan's defence strategy, al Qaeda was using Fata to recruit and train operatives, plan and prepare regional and transnational attacks, disseminate propaganda and obtain equipment and supplies. Gen. Maples warned that while Pakistan has taken important steps to safeguard its nuclear weapons, ‘vulnerabilities still exist.' Gen. Maples also revealed that Taliban are operating openly in Quetta. He said, "the Quetta shura is operating openly in Quetta."

US-China relations at an eight year low

The United States accused China of harassing a U.S. naval survey ship in international waters off a Hainan island, a key strategic base from which China projects military power in the South China Sea. National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair said Chinese policies "seem to be in a more military, aggressive"stance. "That is a trend that we are seeing, "he told the Senate Armed Services committee. It was still unclear, he said, whether China was using its growing military power "for good or pushing people around. " His comments came a day after the United States accused China of harassing a U.S. naval survey ship, the USNS Impeccable, in international waters off a Hainan island, a key strategic base from which China projects military power in the South China Sea. Blair called the incident "the most serious" since a Chinese military plane collided with a U.S. electronic surveillance plane also off Hainan in April 2001, the early months of former President George W. Bush's presidency. The comments indicate that China policy under Obama is unlikely to substantially deviate from the one practiced by Bush. China along with Russia still remains America's principal enemy.

AFP - Bangladesh arrest 27 for anti-govt leaflets:police

DHAKA (AFP) - Twenty-seven Bangladeshis have been arrested for distributing leaflets criticising the government's handling of a savage mutiny by border guards against top military officers, police said Saturday.

The men were taken into custody following the February 25-26 revolt in the capital in which more than 70 people were slain by rank-and-file guards, Masudur Rahman, a senior official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told AFP.

"The men arrested are members of the Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir. They have been distributing leaflets that contained provocative statements which were anti-government about the mutiny," Rahman, assistant deputy police commissioner, said.

"They were arrested at 14 locations throughout the capital. They have not been charged with treason and we don't believe they helped stage the mutiny."

Hizb ut-Tahrir is a worldwide group which wants to combine all Muslim countries in a unitary Islamic state or "khilafat". It is banned in some countries but not in Bangladesh.

Most killed in the mutiny were senior army officers and the incident has exposed deep tensions between elected leaders and the military and raised fears about the survival of the government, according to political analysts.

The government said this week some border guards arrested in connection with the mutiny appeared to have links with banned Islamic group Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

Hizb ut-Tahrir holds economics forum in Lahore, Pakistan

On 7 March 2009, Hizb ut-Tahrir Wilayah Pakistan organized a forum entitled, "The inherent flaws of Capitalism vs. the ideal Islamic economic system," in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. The event was attended by a selected audience of professors of economics, bankers, business men, ulema, media men and lawyers amongst other influentials and chaired by the Spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Pakistan, Naveed Butt. The forum elaborated on how Capitalism itself caused the global economic crisis, with concepts such as private ownership of public resources, fiat currency without intrinsic value, usury and fractional reserve banking. In contrast, the Deputy of Spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Pakistan, Imran Yusufzai, spoke about the implementation of the Islamic economic system by the Khilafah "Caliphate" state as the way- out from the global economic crisis. Islam uniquely ensures that energy resources such as oil and gas are a public property for the benefit of all the citizens of the Islamic state, currency that is based on gold and silver and a state treasury which loans without usury.
