Reject Intelligence Bill- The Return of Repressive Regime

Jakarta: To reject The Intelligence Bill, Hizb ut-Tahrir in Indonesia together with Islamic groups held Press Conference in the meeting hall of HTI's Central Office in Jakarta (Thursday 7^th of April). Hizb ut-Tahrir together with other Islamic groups agreed that The Intelligence bill was potential to re-birth repressive regime and endanger dakwah activities.

According to the Bill,

• a. The State Intelligence is given large authority to withhold anyone assumed as "Local enemy", "National Threat" and "Security Threat"

• b. intelligence agencies has authority to tap communication or electronic documents and audit the flow of funds which are suspected to fund terrorist activities, espionage, subversive, sabotage and all activities assumed endangering national security. The fourth point, in the same article said that Bank of Indonesia, financial institutions, institution of money delivery are obliged to inform The State Intelligence agencies. The intelligence agencies can arrest anyone based on their assumption and their interpretation without judicial permission.

• c. The State Intelligence is allowed to interrogate a suspect without telling place of interrogation and material interrogation even to the family of the suspect. The suspect is not allowed accompanied by lawyer. The intelligence can do anything according to his assumption and interpretation without control from permanent institution.
