Ramadan Series Heroic Stances: Hairdresser of Pharaoh's daughter (Mashitat Fir’aun)

Ramadan Mubarak to the best Ummah brought forth for humankind. The Islamic Ummah that Allah has honored with His obedience... The Ummah Voice Podcast is pleased to present during the month of Ramadan Heroic Stances. Individuals who had a positive impact in changing the course of events, and set an example for many members of the Islamic Ummah.

One individual that can be truly attributed for her heroic stance is the hairdresser of Pharaoh’s daughter (mashitat Fir’aun) . She is a righteous woman who lived under the rule of Pharoah and had embraced Islam in secret. One day while she was combing the hair of the daughter of Pharaoh, the comb had fallen to the ground and when she went to go pick up the comb she said, “Bismi Allah” (in the name of Allah).”

The daughter of Pharaoh asked the hairdresser if she meant her father as a god. The hairdresser firmly replied, “No, Allah the God of your father, yourself, and me.” The daughter in anger went to her father and said that there is a person who worships a god besides you. Pharaoh sent for the hairdresser and asked her, “who is your Lord?” The hairdresser replied, “my Lord and your Lord is Allah (swt).” Pharoah then ordered his soldiers to bring a copper pot, fill it with oil, and heat it until it reaches a boiling point. He then brought the 5 sons of the hairdresser. Pharaoh kept asking who is your Lord as a means of pressure for her to worship Pharaoh.

She remained firm and steadfast and kept saying that her Lord and Pharaoh’s Lord is Allah (swt). Pharaoh kept throwing each child in the burning pot but when it came to her youngest son she was about to pull back but SubnahAllah, Allah (swt) made her infant speak and told his mother to be patient and that she is on the path of truth. She along with her infant were thrown into the boiling oil.

When the Prophet Muhammad (saw) ascended to the Heavens on the day of Israa wa Miraj, he (saw) smelled a pleasant scent and asked Jebriel (as) about that fragrance. The angel Jebriel recounted the story of Mashitat Fir’aun. The heroic stance that this woman stood before a ruthless tyrant to proclaim her worship is for the One, the only, Allah (swt). Today, we see how Muslims are imprisoned and tortured for the sake of Allah (swt). They remain firm in calling for the rule of Islam and working to establish the Khilafah on the method of the Prophethood. These Dawah carriers work day and night for the sake of pleasing Allah (swt). Torture was endured and even martyrdom by various Dawah carriers in the prisons these tyrants but refused to give up. We look at the Ummah today how some scholars are paid off by giving certain Fatwas in order to please these corrupt rulers or for them to escape the prisons. These scholars are surely playing with their Hereafter! The story of the hairdresser seeing her 5 children boil to death should be an example for the Ummah to stand for the Haqq and never to give in to societal pressures.

May the Ummah see more heroic attributes that this hairdresser portrayed towards a ruthless tyrant where his abode is the fires of Hell.
