In April this year, the Sri Lankan government issued a regulation mandating that all those dying from Covid-19 or who were positive for the virus upon death had to be cremated, regardless of their religious beliefs, citing baseless public health concerns as their reason for this policy.

On the 2nd of November 2020, the BBC reported that the Indian government has initiated a campaign to promote the consumption of sugar in response to the excess sugar not sold by companies. The new pubic adverts and campaigns are employing scientists and dietitians to reverse the public’s current understanding that it is healthy to reduce refined sugar consumption.

The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) platform hosted the Unit for Combating Violence against Women and Children to talk about the campaign to combat violence against women and announce the launch of the 16-day campaign to combat violence and discrimination, in the presence of Minister of Labour and Social Development Lena el-Sheikh.

On Tuesday 1st December, Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court rejected civil society petitions and judicial cases brought by Muslim and Christian families in the country, challenging the government’s policy mandating cremation for all Covid-19 related deaths or any dead body suspected to be infected with the virus, irrespective of religious beliefs.
