Yemen Talks Begin
U.N. sponsored peace talks on the Yemen conflict have begun on Friday in Kuwait between the Houthis and the Yemeni government of Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. But the real instigators of the war are absent from the meeting.
The war in Yemen is being perpetrated by the Saudi government with direct backing and support from the United States. Local conflicts within the Muslim world are always seized upon by the great powers as opportunities to increase their interference in our affairs. If the UN were really interested in bringing peace, then it should have held peace talks with the US, to prevent it from providing military support to Saudi Arabia in this conflict.
Geneva Talks Collapsing
Meanwhile, UN envoy Steffan de Mistura has openly admitted that peace cannot be achieved by the local parties alone, in another set of irrelevant peace talks, in Geneva, between the Syrian government and opposition.
In a statement on Friday, the UN special envoy for Syria called for an urgent meeting of ministers from major and regional powers, known as the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) which includes the US, Russia, the EU, Iran, Turkey and Arab states. "Yes we do need certainly a new ISSG at ministerial level," envoy Staffan de Mistura said, according to a Reuters report.
The US is only interested in peace talks when it has achieved its military objectives on the ground. The US will continue to support war in Syria until the whole of Syria is returned under a pro-US government. The first round of peace talks in Geneva were primarily designed only to provide the Syrian government with the time they needed to prepare for the second phase of their assault on Aleppo.
German Chancellor Merkel tries to shift focus to Turkish treatment of refugees
German Chancellor Angela Merkel is due in Turkey on Saturday. Before travelling she said that her visit would focus on questions of how Turkey treats refugees and the EU's effort to support Ankara's efforts.
It is in fact the West that is responsible for the refugee situation in the first place because of its gross interference in the Syrian conflict, following which the West has blocked those fleeing the area from entering there. Now after signing an explicit agreement for returning refugees to Turkey, the EU wishes to blame Turkey for oppressing the refugees.
Turkey is also playing with the lives of millions of refugees in order to achieve limited political objectives but the duplicity of Turkey appears to be almost irrelevant compared to that of the West. According to the Wall Street Journal, Merkel's affirmed that the EU-Turkey migrant deal remains "absolutely right and important" because it helps preserve Europe's systems of open borders under the so-called Schengen Agreement.
The EU is working hard to benefit as much as possible from the refugee crisis by taking small numbers that are needed to support diminishing Western populations while blaming Turkey for not adequately caring for the millions that the EU is blocking from entering their countries.
World leaders turn out in force to sign climate deal
Also, on Friday, over 170 world leaders gathered at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Friday to sign the agreement on climate change that had previously been agreed during the Paris climate conference.
It is in fact the great powers that are responsible for climate change. So why do they not sit together to solve this problem in the same way that they sit together to solve security matters between themselves without the participation of other countries? Their purpose in bringing together all the countries of the world is to divert responsibility for this issue to others while making very limited commitments on their own behalf to address climate change.
It is the Capitalist system that is responsible for global warming due to its exclusive focus on economic growth based on material self-interest instead of working for true human welfare. Only the re-established Khilafah "Caliphate" state (Caliphate) upon the method of the Prophethood will be able to genuinely address issues such as climate change because its leaders will be committed to the true ideology, Islam, that calls for safeguarding the benefit of all mankind in accordance with divine instruction.
