The Citizen paper dated 11/06/2014, reported at least half of graduates produced by East African universities lack employability skills, technical mastery and basic work-related capabilities, a new survey shows.

According to the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), the situation simply confirms the concerns among employers that most graduates are not fully prepared for the job market.

The study shows that Uganda has the worst record of 63 per cent of graduates found to lack job market skills followed closely by Tanzania where 61 per cent of graduates are ill-prepared.

While Burundi and Rwanda, 55 per cent and 52 per cent of graduates respectively are perceived to be incompetent. Also Kenya, 51 per cent of graduates are believed to be unfit for jobs.

 

Comment:

The dire condition of producing half-skilled graduates is highly contributed to a number of factors:

Firstly, under the current system via capitalism democracy, education is solely deemed as the only primary source of living. This fallacy, is behind compelling many students & parents from primary to secondary level, to meddle in various acts of dishonest including cheating in exams, which to some extent is done in collaboration with the teachers & or with education officials.

Acts of cheating in exams, in an endeavor to secure fake education certificates to enable the students to proceed to higher levels of education have almost become a norm of the day.
Unfortunately, when the same students get to universities, on top of having gone there with dearth of basic skills, they encounter teachers who are influenced by the criterion of benefit in undertaking actions. These teachers, are always willing to take bribe as to procure fake qualification to the students.

Consequently, students tend to graduate half skilled rendering them unfit for the job market.
In short, since capitalism democracy has fallaciously turned education as a commodity, just like any other commodity, depicting education as the solely means of a earning a living on top of the criterion of benefit in undertaking actions, in that situation, its not expected to produce skilled graduates.

Without mentioning that the education system, just like other systems is hovered by bribery and unskilled teachers who eventually involve themselves in other activities to cater for their basic needs.

Under the shade of the Islamic State, Khilafah "Caliphate" education is not considered as a commodity; and the criterion of undertaking actions is HALAL and HARAM (licit and elicit) will be given first priority in all undertakings.

With acts of dishonest and cheating being contained and severe punishment being meted out to the culprits.
