News Report
Address on the Lewa’ (White Banner) and Raya (Black Banner) of the Prophet (saw) Adorned with Takbeer and Tears in the Great Port Sudan Market
(Translated)

Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah Sudan held its weekly political address titled: "Did the Prophet (saw) Have Lewa’ and Raya?" on Monday, 28th Jumada al-Akhirah 1446 AH, corresponding to 30/12/2024 CE.

It was delivered by Ustadh Muhammad Jaami' (Abu Ayman), Assistant to the Official Spokesman of Hizb ut Tahrir in Wilayah Sudan. He emphasized that the Lewa’ and Raya in Islam are matters of Deen, Aqeedah, principle, and symbols of Islam. The Prophet (saw) adopted the white Lewa’ as a flag for the army commander and the black Raya for the leaders of the armies and brigades, known as Al-Uqab, inscribed with "La ilaha illa Allah Muhammad Rasul Allah". He supported his statement with several pieces of evidence, including a narration reported by Tirmidhi, Ahmad, and Ibn Majah, from Ibn Abbas, who said:«كَانَتْ رَايَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ سَوْدَاءَ وَلِوَاؤُهُ أَبْيَضَ»“The flag of the Messenger of Allah (saw) was black, and his standard was white.”

He also mentioned that what confirms the obligation of raising this Raya and Lewa’ is the sacrifice of the Sahaba (Companions) and their martyrdom in defense of it. He explained that Muslims continued to uphold this practice, raising the Lewa’ and Raya of the Prophet (saw) in battles, at state facilities, and in their homes, until the colonialist enemies destroyed the Uthmani Khilafah (Ottoman Caliphate), divided Muslim lands, and introduced the current national flags under the Sykes-Picot Agreement between the French and British foreign ministers. They replaced the Raya of the Prophet (saw), just as they replaced Islamic rulings, imposing instead human-made laws such as democracy, secularism, civil states, military regimes, and the like.

He pointed out that the duty of the Islamic Ummah today is to re-establish the Islamic system—the Khilafah Rashidah (Rightly guided Caliphate) upon the method of the Prophethood—which raises this Raya, establishes the Deen, implements Sharia, and unites the Ummah of the Prophet (saw).

During the Question & Answer and interaction segment, the attendees responded with takbeer, tahlil, and tears. They rushed to raise the Rayah and Lewa’ alongside the Shabab of Hizb ut Tahrir, exchanging embraces, warm greetings, and heartfelt prayers for goodness.
