The ugly truth of British collusion with Gaddafi's torturers

London, UK, September 5th 2011 -While the UK government boasts about its "humanitarian intervention" in Libya, the depth of British and American complicity in the torture and rendition of Libyan opposition figures has being exposed with the capture of documents from the offices of Moussa Koussa former regime security chief and right-hand man of Moammar Gaddafi. They show just how deeply entrenched the West was in supporting the brutal Gadaffi regime against its opponents up to and until the uprisings in February.  

Commenting, Taji Mustafa, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain said: "These revelations are another blow to the already discredited reputation of Western nations and expose their hypocrisy and any claims to moral leadership."

 "While David Cameron talks about ‘human rights' in the new Libya, the UK's MI6 and America's CIA have been complicit in the torture and rendition of opponents of the Gadaffi regime. When confronted with these latest revelations, UK foreign secretary William Hague tried blaming the previous government and said he does not comment on security matters though only a few months ago, Cameron's government was arming and supporting the brutal Gadaffi regime and maintaining a ‘close security relationship' with it."

"It is clear that as the Libyan uprising unfolded, the West's switch from supporting and arming Gadaffi was not out of ‘humanitarian' concern, but an attempt to try to manage the process of change in the region in order to ensure that their interests remain protected. The interests of curbing immigration, maintaining access to cheap oil and preventing an Islamic resurgence are what drive the UK's colonialist policy. The National Transitional Council (NTC) should beware of these same Western nations now offering support in return for oil deals and economic and political influence. People did not give their lives in overthrowing a brutal Western backed dictator only to see a continued colonial stranglehold over their lands."

"Libya - and the wider region - now need true independence from the economic and political influence of Western capitalist nations who are prepared to support the most brutal dictatorships or democracies - which murder its citizens - provided it serves their interests. Only the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" (caliphate) system provides a  sincere Islamic leadership that will once again ensure true independence from foreign powers and ensure that the people of the region control their wealth, economy and political destiny and that is why Western powers seek to demonise the re-establishment of the Caliphate."
